Nice song, but some of the lines strike my ears as a bit odd, a bit uncostelloesque:

At the DC show, Elvis gave a long intro to this, said he found the song on the B side of a 45 he bought in Fort Lauderdale. Said it was written and sung by a Sergeant Larry Singer (I think he said Singer) and that Lucky, the dog, was famous and appeared on the cover of Life magazine (presumably in the 70s or late 60s, as he said this took place in Southeast Asia.). He said Singer's career didn't take off like Barry Sadler's ("Ballad of the Green Berets"). I couldn't find anything about Lucky or Sergeant Larry on the web, can anyone else? Is Elvis spinning a tale here or is it just a really obscure find he made?

He says in the Purchase intro that "it's a true story, you probably remember it," and yet Google can't provide any information about Sgt. Larry Singer, Lucky, or Fort Lauderdale's Four Tet record label.

I don't see how it can possibly be true.
