Re: Random Thoughts
My music page-a-day calendar tells me that tomorrow is Coolio's birthday. How will you all be celebrating?

The new American Express commercial with Tina Fey & Martin Srorcesee is very funny.

Re: Random Thoughts
Blue and I just started a full week off of work (11 days, in fact), and are kicking it off with a really nice and crazy-big Greek themed dinner. We've got three different dips (Humous, Skordalia, a red pepper feta one that I can't think of the name of), moussaka, spanakopita, and saganaki - finished off by orange ice cream.
Tomorrow we're off to get our anniversary gift to each other: a grind & brew coffee maker.
I love vacation.
And I can't believe it's almost been a year since we got married. Where did the time go???

Down the pathway of wedded bliss... Well happy anniversary. Good first anniv present. Good Greek feast!
What is skordalia? I lurrrrv spankopita, and discovered saganaki enthusiastically in Athens 15 years ago! It sounds and looks so Japanese. Deep fried cheese. Totally addictive, in my experience.

That stuff is so yummy! There's a greek restaurant in Chattanooga owned and operated by a lovely greek family. Saganaki is one of the appetizers. We ordered it last time we were there. They make it really festive at the table. Sounds fun, guys. Happy anniversary!

You like-a the juice? The juice is good.
j/k. Love Greek food. There is a great Greek bakery that opened in town here a year ago and is now the local laptop hangout.

Skordalia is a garlicky potato dip - one of our favourites at the local greek places. Here's the recipe we used:Otis Westinghouse wrote:What is skordalia?

This recipe was a bit too salty, but otherwise very yum.

Re: Random Thoughts
I tried these spinach roll things with rice in them that were really tasty. I think they used some vinegary sauce on the spinach.
This spinach and feta pastry thing looks good, mood. My mum makes a similar sort of thing - http://www.grouprecipes.com/29547/spina ... l-ups.html

And more importantly, a year since you met me and So Lack (or are you still trying to block that out!!!). Good married life just flies by. Mini VG is 10 months old now - where did THAT time go?RedShoes wrote:And I can't believe it's almost been a year since we got married. Where did the time go???

Re: Random Thoughts
All this Greek talk inspired me to start throwing a bunch of stuff together last night and create a dish of my own - potatoes, oregano, red onions, kalamata olives, minced garlic, sea salt, fresh ground pepper, and feta cheese. Yum. It turned out really well. Oh, how I love kalamata olives.

Q: How do you keep the lid on an 'air tight' Spaghetti Jar? The air pressure inside just pops the lid, every time.

Has anyone here ever been to a hypnotist? I'm thinking about going to one so I can stop being such a hopeless procrastinator. Even worse than a procrastinator--I am a hopeless perendinator!

MBA - I'd look around for a book on selfhypnosis, have seen some good ones all about how it works. I could use one too. One I saw involved making your own tapes of you in your hypnotised state to play at night while you sleep. I'd never trust a hypnotist.

Looks like same animator who did the Gorillaz stuff. I like it.
NBC's coverage is already driving me over the edge with its homerism, jingoism and commercialism.

Re: Random Thoughts
I keep a 500g pack of spaghetti in a vaccum jar for two weeks. It's got a pressure lid that wedges in deep with a button valve. The lid never pops. Is this too long? Some 4 star restaurants I've worked in (never could it in 5 star, never mind why) would store pasta in large dusty screw-lid polyethylene (soft plastic) containers that 10kg sacks get poured in.
