I knew that the US and Sweden releases of This Year's Model had different photos from the same session compared to the UK release, but then I stumbled on this image of a supposed fourth variation. Does anyone happen to know more about it?

Elvis Costello : This Year's Model

Dyna Moe became -- through no calculated intent or overt effort -- "internet famous" for drawing a scene every week from the second season of Mad Men. From that was tapped to illustrate officially for the show, including web-toy Mad Men Yourself, which had an absolute stranglehold on Facebook avatars for that summer, and last year's Mad Men: The Illustrated World, the #1 gift for people you know nothing about other than their television habits. She appears, very tired and hungover, in a bonus featurette of the Mad Men Season 3 DVD.

Other clients include Marc Jacobs and The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. She has exhibited as a part of Crazy 4 Cult, These Are Their Stories (A Law & Order Art Show), and the upcoming JP (Jurassic Park/Just People) Show, all in Los Angeles. Prints of her work hang in the homes of two Hollywood TV moguls. She provided art for photo dress-up iPhone app Mr Chiizu, downloadable now or in the near-future in the iPhone app store.

She lives in New York City, if you can call it living.

Elvis Costello's second album, This Year's Model (1978), was designed by hyper-prolific Stiff Records art director Barney Bubbles (who also did EC's first cover - My Aim is True - also referenced in my version) who intentionally printed it off-register - the edge of the title cut off on the left, the color bars on the right - but it was "corrected" for American release.

Not only do I love this record and consider it an iconic cover, I wanted to pay tribute to a designer with an name as ridiculously stupid and fake-sounding as mine.

Here are the three known versions that I know where released in high-resolution. Does someone know if more countries had their own unique photo on the cover? (I like the concept, since it conveys the idea that it's about the photograph that's being taken, not about the photograph per se. (a bit like conceptual art.)

"By the time I took this picture (for the cover of Elvis Costello's second album, released in 1978) I had already photographed Elvis a dozen or more times. As his career took off I watched his confidence in front of the camera grow. In those days every single had a picture sleeve, so by the time this album came, we had done several sleeves together and Elvis was relaxed when working with me. Apart from my assistant, there were just the two of us. The concept of him behind a camera for the sleeve of This Years Model had already been chosen, so I decided to equip Elvis with exactly the same tripod and camera as I was using to create a 'mirror' for him. "

Alongside a powerful stereo I kept a large record collection at my Camden Studio, and artists would choose music they enjoyed or were interested in for their sessions. Just as we were about to start shooting, Elvis asked me if I had Hotel California by The Eagles, and could I play it? I was puzzled by his choice - until he told me that he loathed the record, but wanted to look really pissed off and angry in the shots! We played the record several times during the session and whilst I directed him, I was also aware of his copying some of my own actions as I took the photographs. This picture was only recently discovered, and is the next frame to one used for the album sleeve. It has never been published before."

To me, the middle one - Costello hunkering low behind the camera and looking out with a feverish pornographer's intensity - is by far the best of the bunch. He looks too gentlemanly in the others, and insufficiently perverse.

It seems like it must be a pic from the booklet of the deLuxe 2CD edition of TYM! SOmeone who owns it can check it up and confirm!

Currently in Finland. Walked into the first record shop I happened to pass and picked up a copy of the Finnish TYM LP for 15 euros! That was easy!

While shopping for vinyl in Cape Town, I came across an interesting curiosity. I found a copy of This Year's Model. What seems to be unique about this copy is the track listing. 'Watching The Detectives' is added to the end if side one,and the 'Stranger In The House/Neat Neat Neat' single is added to the end of side two. A closer look shows me that this is a Zimbabwean pressing from a company called 'Teal Records'. Has anyone ever seen a similar track listing made for another market?
