Wishful Thinking: Songs You'd Love To See Elvis Cover
I personally would love for Tea For The Tillerman to be covered by him and just a countless list of songs by Fiona Apple and such.
It's not the days when you leave me, but all I fear are the nights.

Off the top of my head, I always thought Roxanne was a Costello-ish song and was surprised that this was not covered during the Police Spectacle episode, though Every Little Things She Does is Magic is a good choice too, though that was not aired.
I'll come up with more later.

Funny. That video is shot by a friend of mine who I haven't spoken to in a long time. Though I know snippets count, I would love to hear a full studio cover. For that matter, would like to find a good version of the Costello doing Every Little Thing She Does is Magic. The best I have is, coincidentally, an audience recording of the Spectacle taping by the same guy who posted the youtube clip you referenced, though the quality is not the best. And No Coffee Table wrote:Are you aware of this?SoulForHire wrote:Off the top of my head, I always thought Roxanne was a Costello-ish song

ETA - Now I REALLY can't wait until that Vienna, VA DVD gets uploaded onto Dime.
Re: Wishful Thinking: Songs You'd Love To See Elvis Cover
I'd like to hear him do studio versions of Randy Crawford's One Day I'll Fly Away and Olivia Newton-John's Hopelessly Devoted To You, which he used to do in his late 70s live set. Also studio versions of Knowing Me Knowing You, which he did on the original Spinning Songbook tour, and a few other Abba classics.
Re: Wishful Thinking: Songs You'd Love To See Elvis Cover
Knowing Me, Knowing You would be rather good Neil. A studio version of Out Of Time would be my choice.

An Ace of Spades duet with Lemmy. I'd love to see Pete take the drumming role.
Failing that I'd like to hear one of the other duets he used to do in the 80s, Private Number with Glenn Tilbrook.

I know this is kind of the opposite of topic of this thread, but have you heard Radiohead's version of I'll Wear It Proudly? Not bad at all and very unexpected from them. Love that song.
Back on topic, EC seems to like covering The Who. How about the following songs from Quadrophenia - "I'm One," "The Punk Meets the Godfather," and "Cut My Hair"? Or Jewel's "You Were Meant for Me"?

Re: Wishful Thinking: Songs You'd Love To See Elvis Cover
Talking about covers - Elvis' rendition of (What's So Funny 'Bout) Love, Peace & Understanding is placed at No 3 on The Popdose 100 Greatest Cover Songs Of All Time :
http://popdose.com/the-popdose-100-the- ... -all-time/
3. “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding” – Elvis Costello. Originally performed by Brinsley Schwarz.
From the start, this was song divided against itself. Nick Lowe has said that he began writing it as a satire of hippie attitudes and platitudes — but that as he worked at it, he began to ponder seriously the rhetorical question he’d set for himself: “Well, really, what is so funny about peace, love, and understanding?” On the one hand, Costello’s rendition only ramped up those ambiguities; its placement as the capstone of an album as punishing as Armed Forces (whose working title, lest we forget, was Emotional Fascism) might suggest that the titular trinity were just another self-deception. But the bracing fury of his performance goes a long way towards reconciling them, reminding us that compassion and anger come from the same place of a response to injustice, and that the righteous man must be of necessity both tough and kind, both hard-headed and tender-hearted. And so “Peace, Love and Understanding” becomes, in Costello’s hands, an anthem in spite of itself. — Jack Feerick

Well... wishful thinking, right? I'd love to hear him cover some Motown stuff, specially The Tempations (Papa was a Rolling Stone, The Way you do the things you do, Ain't too proud to beg or even My Girl would be great).
Do you guys know if he already did this?

A great classic that I can just imagine Elvis doing with Steve Nieve:

Bob asked & no I wasn't asked to sing it. I did do Physical in a karaoke bar in Africa once but the less said about that the better

I would love to see him cover "Sleeping With The Television On" by Billy Joel. Billy probably doesn't get much love around an Elvis Costello forum, but what the hell.
Re: Wishful Thinking: Songs You'd Love To See Elvis Cover
I always wished it had come to pass.
Many years ago there was a charity tribute to Sgt. Pepper's where Elvis and Tom Waits were suppose to record "A Day in the Life".
I guess their schedules did not make it possible.
I just assume that Elvis would get the Lennon, main vocal; and Tom Waits would get the McCartney middle section (Woke up, got outta bed...). But, you never know, that may have been too obvious.
