Walk Us Uptown - any radio play?

Post by Neil. »

Has anyone heard the new Elvis/Roots song anywhere other than on the internet?

Just curious as to whether it's made it onto the airwaves. According to this web page, BBC radio hasn't played it yet: http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/artists/8a33 ... a09bc840ba

BBC Radio 6, I heard it on Lauren Laverne, last track Tuesday August 6th. You can listen on iPlayer for a couple of more days as she had quite an interesting introduction.

She said" now for something completely different, there is no way into this", "Elvis said the last thing you want people to say I know what they are doing and hearing half the album in their mind"

approx. timing 2hrs.57mins....

Neil, this chart suggests some airplay in the US to a good audience figure.

I suspect the Lauren Laverne play could be the only play so far in the UK (and it was cut short). I am not sure who will paly it over here. Can't imagine Radio 1 or 2 playing it. Maybe Radio 6 but I don't think it has a big audience.

I am a regular radio listener, complete with a Satellite radio subscription, and consistently listen to the college stations where invariably newer music will be first 'broken' on air. To date I have not heard a single radio play of the new song. Contrasts sharply to the prior new album whose title song received intial airplay even on conventional radio stations, though it soon disappeared after the record hit the shelves- much too my disappointment- though I grew to dislike that particular song for its many weaknesses. It is early yet so maybe the new song will pick up some steam in a rotation as he makes further rounds to 'flog' it. I know I would much prefer to hear the new one as opposed to the "NR" title song. It is a stronger and more intriguing musical and lyrical indictment of the current era for my ears.

I went to an outdoor Shakespeare performance Saturday evening and heard the song blaring from a loudspeaker as we were walking to the amphitheatre. I'm not sure if they were broadcasting a radio station or had compiled their own music. Either way, it was nice to hear the song in public.

Jamie obviously loves it.

The single appears to be going well in this chart but I don't really understand it!

Also in Italian Switzerland!

Roundtable on BBC Radio 6 Music have just played it. Idiots reviewing it scored it 5, 5 and 4 out of 10. Lamacq says "it's reasonably popular with our listeners this evening".

My own view, based on the title track, is that if this record doesn't break it big relative to EC's other entries over the past two decades, then nothing will. The "cool" factor on this thing is through the roof.

I heard it on The Spectrum on SiriusXM this afternoon. A pleasant surprise.

Caught that FUV air play- as well and then heard it last night on a Canadian public radio program that I listen to late in the evening most nights- twice in one day- yes it is breaking.

Continued airplay on WFUV over the last few days- twice last evening and once this morning I heard it. But then I remember that the song "National Ransom" was given strong air play back in 2010 and look what happended there.

Katie Puckrik played it earlier today on Radio 6 Music. She seemed a little surprised that she liked it at the end. Possibly the first play in the UK in over a week and a half unless anyone knows different. 1 hour 50 mins into this:-

It is hard to see how any Elvis record (no matter how good) will do well over here without a heap of high profile promotion.

Upped to the A list on 6 Music for next week.

Let's hope some new fans can be generated. I notice that that the BBC are referring to and even introducing the single as being by Elvis Costello & Roots. missing out the "The".
