Maybe I'm making too much of a leap but that bit where Elvis is reacting to the four different boxed off images around him ....is that a reference to a similar sequence in this?

I snuck onto my phone when Mrs VG wasn't around and watched it with Mini VG. She and I loved it.

When Mrs VG came home, mini VG said "Mummy the man couldn't count because the monster ate his red 2".

This deserves a wide audience.

I noticed it too! I thought it was a reference to something, although I couldn't recall what it was.

aaaaaawwwwwww So cute!

Sesame Street is the best kids show ever. It's so simple, funny and educational. I don't have kids but I have two nephews (ages 4 and 5). They always love the Sesame Street videos I show them and they will certainly love this one!

Also, when I saw the video I was at work. I found it so adorable I showed to all my coworkers. Everybody loved it and some said they would show their kids. :)

You know what, I think you're right. Especially with the white background just like the early videos!

I'm not sure this is the original backing track, though, ba.

I really think this is a hoot. When my son was little we watched Sesame Street a lot and he was really into Elmo, and he also used to dance around to my VHS copy of The Best of Elvis, so here the two worlds converge.

My favorite bit is Elmo doing the call and response bit. Priceless.

The Cookie Monster's intervention during the last verse is the closest we've come to a Tom Waits duet in a few decades.

Nope, not even close. The drum sound is completely different (this was obviously recorded digitally on modern gear), there's an additional acoustic guitar track on the left channel and the guitar arpeggios are completely different, as well as a few of the drum fills. It's also at a slightly faster tempo. With those ears, ba, no wonder you think your analog recordings sound clearer than the doc's!

That's funny.

Let's hope it doesn't get any closer than this (....ducks for cover...)

surely you jest, with your "NOT EVEN CLOSE" account. it is as true to the original as you would expect 35 years later if it is indeed a re-record...which it is not. they did something "new" to the old track. yeah i hear an additional little guitar fill (played by Elmo, naturally!) but not much else. and analog recordings sound MUCH better than ELVIS COSTELLO concerts cancelled in SOUTH AMERICA ever will!

It is a re-record. Sorry, ba. There's not just "an additional little guitar fill", it's an additional guitar track playing throughout the entire song on the left channel. The distinctive keyboard part in the original is also completely absent from the Sesame Street version. The drum sound isn't even similar, especially the snare. The entire mix is less busy, and I sincerely doubt they used the original 35 year old masters and paid for a remix just for this. Also, play them side by side, and you'll see it falls out of sync very quickly-- the Sesame Street version is at a different tempo.

Most likely, they hired session musicians to do an approximation of the original track. Wanna put this one to public vote too?

Oh, I wanna count to ten now
But it's something I can't do
'Cause I don't have all the numbers
No, a monster went and ate my red two

and when I heard him shout "cowabunga!"
that's when I knew that my counting was through
And I can't count any higher
now the monster went and ate my red two, oh!

He was watching while I counted to one
I was smiling because counting's so much fun
But he took my two and then he ate it for his lunch
now my counting's over before it's begun

Oh I'm feeling so sad now (hey, why is that?)
'Cause my number got chewed (that's too bad)
There are tears in my eyes (Mr. Elvis, how sad!)
Now I'm crying, boo-hoo!

Will I ever count to ten now that a monster went and ate my red two?
Oh! Elmo said...

Don't worry, Elmo knows what to do
He ran right out and came back with another two
Now my friend Mr. Elvis can start counting once again
and with this brand new two I can count up to ten

Now I'm feeling so happy
I feel like shouting yahoo!
And me still feeling hungry, cowabunga!
Cookie Monster went and ate the new red two

oh when I heard him shouting "cowabunga!"
that's when I knew that my counting was through
And I can't count any higher
now the monster went and ate my red two

Red two! A monster went and ate my red two
Red two! A monster went and ate my red two
Red two! A monster went and ate my red two
Red two! A monster went and ate my red two

okay okay...as long as you give me that they DID try to replicate the EXACT sound & feel, i relent!we all KNOW ba's ears are QUESTIONABLE at best!

The possibilities for future EC appearances on Sesame Street are endless:

"I Want Juice"
"Naptime is Over"
"Battered Old Big Bird"
"(I Don't Wanna Go To) Bed"

Etc.

Is it just me, or does he sound extra "nasal" on the vocals here? Almost a parody of himself.
