Random Thoughts

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

I can remember quite clearly what it felt like to be 15, though as ever it's hard to know if the way you project the state of your mind at that past time is a reflecton of now or a real recollection of then, but I can think of songs, places, people and be almost transported back a la Proust.
I *still* feel like I'm 15. And it's sooooooo inconvienent when folks expect me to be decisive. (And Otis, check out that Love Is A Mixtape Book, just for kicks - for me, it was like meeting an old in friend in a complete stranger).

I would not know where to buy goose fat. Lard, yes. Goose fat, no.

Playfulness is highly underrated.

I've just had a weekend of extremely bad/little sleep. Just when you think a baby has a little routine, it changes.

Why is she coming to life in the evening? And just before she's going to bed she just looks at me and keeps smiling. Probably because she thinks "I bet you think you're in for a quiet night"

The bad things are outweighed by the good. A million fold.

It's increased in popularity here, I think. Our local smallish supermarket had jars for sale this Christmas. I've always used olive oil with good results, but goose fat is class. Check this out.

This is my 4,000th post.

The computer did not make any noises/whoops/hollers etc nor did the screen start flashing with "Congratulations VG! You will be contacted by the Elite of the Board Elite".

DrS - can you please look into this

I don't think so, but Rob Sheffield reminds me of you.

In a good way! a good way!

The Goose Fat Information Service? I'm not sure I want to eat something that has a "usage." That can't be good for you.

Should we welcome Majestic-12 [bot] to our little corner of the cyber universe? It's getting like Star Wars with all the bots we have in here...

The bots were always here. The new board software just shows them prowling and the old software didn't. Nothing new.. just more visible now.

Does it make you nervous?

Coming from someone who fell off the vegetarian bandwagon in a somewhat spectacular way this past Christmas, I have to entirely agree with you. I blame the significant other as he's a real foodie, but the guilt has kicked in now so I'm back on the tofu and nut roast and feeling better for it.

Ah, Rufus. Again, I agree with Otis. Seeing him up close in stockings and high heels singing 'Get Happy' was a definite, albeit bizarre, highlight for me last year.

Wow, our contractor told me this morning that his business manager/accountant has just been arrested by the state police for embezzlement. Stole more than 70K from accounts, forged checks, etc. She had been at it for over a year. Poor guy - doesn't deserve this. Housing market is tough enough without people you trust ripping you off.

Whoa, that sucks. People are assholes. :(

Listening to Tom Waits with my boyfriend's dad was a really surreal experience....but I think he's finally warming to me.

This weekend was awesome.

Why?

What was the record of choice for boyfriend's dad? The BBC were using a familiar sounding Waits 'bawler' for a recent TV trailer. Heard it several times, and was convinced it must be from Orphans: Bawlers. Trawled, couldn't find. Had to google to find it was Lullaby from Blood Money. Great song. Made me revisit Blood Money and play it a couple of times over. Great record.

You could spend half your day flossing, yet your dentist is always going to tell you that you need to floss more.

I don't know, It just was. Hanging out with friends, everybody got along, went to the movies, Burger King for the first time in so long, got jeans, watched the History Channel with Sean. Just all around, nothing bad happened.

Mr. F had a mix tape. He likes early Waits, though, if I'm not mistaken. He called me odd because I'm my age listening to it. It was pretty cool.

I think it's time for me to get a new job. I've been at the same place for almost three years now, primarily writing and editing for a weekly newsletter. But as a result of a new boss coming in, I'm doing a lot less writing (actually virtually no writing) and instead spend entire days copying data from one piece of software to an Excel spreadsheet or PowerPoint. It's pretty soul sucking. If anybody has good leads on Toronto writing jobs (ha!) or paying gigs that would allow me to work from wherever I am, please PM me :P
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

Aw, shucks, thanks. Having a real job cuts way down on my Board time, but I'm trying to pop in more than occasionally...
