Re: Elvis Queen's Festival Belfast 28 October 2011
Back in April I commented on the wording of the announcement of Elvis' Oct 29 show in Sligo -
Belfast is easier than Sligo to get too from Dublin and , of course, the U.K. 'mainland'. The £35 ticket price is about on par with the €45 for Sligo. I have yet to receive my Sligo ticket and , with a capacity of c.1200, it has still to sell out. This new date will not help things. Will I go to both? Right now I'm thinking not - too much of a good thing , really!
.....and so it happens. In the Waterfront. I saw Ry Cooder/Nick Lowe there - it's a fabulous venue, capacity 2,235. Will it be better than a sports hall in Sligo?only Republic of Ireland appearance in 2011.
Interesting choice of words. It could mean there will also be a date in Northern Ireland. We'll see.

If , of course, some of you denizens of Albion are going to travel to Belfast I daresay it would be only polite of me to come along, if only to make sure you don't do anything silly like wearing a Union Jack t-shirt on the Short Strand...

So my Oliver Cromwell/Oliver's Army banner isn't going to go down too well either ? I was going to get VG to wear the Union Jack hat as a reminder of his appearance at the Royal Wedding !! ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

John, where did you pick up that its at the Waterfront? And the ticket price?? And any word on what sort of a show? The Waterfront is usually used during the Queen's festival for big orchestral shows.
Agree, it is a good venue, by the way, though the 2,200 capacity is only when the seats behind the stage are used, which they generally aren't for this sort of concert. 1,800 is closer to the usable capacity. I saw EC there on his previous appearances, 1999 with Steve Naive, and 2001 (?) on the Landmine Free World tour. Will he sell it out? Dunno. He didn't in 99.

Strangely the link at the top of the page isn't working, but it was earlier.Ulster Boy wrote:John, where did you pick up that its at the Waterfront? And the ticket price?? And any word on what sort of a show?.
I registered for info but then could book online. I had the pick of the tickets except for two front row ones which were at the end. It was billed as a solo show and the price was £35.
However unless I tie it in with business, I'm not going to go. I reckon there'll be a UK solo tour around that time, just before he goes to Europe. And I'm already going to Amsterdam with sulky lad and BWAP.
And Ulster Boy - I have been in Belfast for the last two days. I stayed at the Park Avenue hotel and got to see Mallusk and Newtownabbey. And enjoy the Ulster fry up!

Astonishing, VG, Newtownabbey is home of one of the great EC recorders and collectors from the British Isles and Eire- it's a small world where EC is concerned.

Thanks all, links working and tickets bought. Newtownabbey and Mallusk, eh? Perhaps not the best we have to offer but glad you enjoyed the fry...

Due to my impending departure from work, I can't get the afternoon off to fly to Belfast in time, but have hopes of making Sligo with recorder(s) in pocket !!
