Elvis Costello and Diana Krall

Elvis Costello has followed his musical curiosity for 28 years and is probably best known for his performances with the Attractions and the Imposters. He’s been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, nominated for an Oscar and now he’s expecting a child with Canadian wife, Diana Krall.

Diana Krall is an international star at the top of the jazz charts with a devoted following. She has just released a new, eleven song collection called “From This Moment On.â€

Vintage Fairlight CMI Keyboard +44 Celebrity Signatures

There is a vintage Fairlight CMI keyboard up on eBay signed by 44 legendary artists include Lindsey Buckingham, Nick Rhodes, Stuart Copeland, Elvis Costello, Mike Oldfield, Hans Zimmer, Roland Orzabal, Barry Gibb, Steve Winwood, Kate Bush, Laurie Anderson, JJ Jeczalik, Joni Mitchell, Annie Lennox, Boris Blank, Midge Ure, Alan Parsons, Geoff Downes, Brian Wilson, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Sir George Martin, John Paul Jones, Trevor Horn, Jim Kerr, Brian Eno, Jean Michel Jarre, Howard Jones, Herbie Hancock, Thomas Dolby, Keith Emerson, Mark Mothersbaugh, Bono, Jan Hammer, Todd Rundgren, Stevie Wonder, Iva Davies, David Hirschfelder, Chick Corea, Daryl Hall, Mike Rutherford, Billy Gibbons, Peter Gabriel and David Bowie.

How very ironic of Elvis to sign this , considering his GCW sleevenote about 1980's synthesizers -

http://www.elviscostellofans.com/phpBB2 ... php?t=3472

(I'm afraid we also fell under the spell of fashionable hardware. Steve had always used synthesizers to colour his keyboard parts. They had a rarity because they were not exactly cheap and seemed to bend to the player's style. The latest fad was the Yamaha DX7. This light, inexpensive device seemed ideal for about six months by which time almost every group in the world seemed to have one. It has a tinny, unyielding tone for which I will never be nostalgic. Along with the veneer of Solid State recording the omni-present DX7 does more than anything else to "datestamp" this record).

In 2007, Waxploitation established the Causes benefit album series to help the people dying in the crisis in Darfur. The money we raise with Causes 1 and Causes 2 goes to Human Rights Watch, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières and Oxfam America.

Although estimates of the number of people killed by the conflict in Darfur vary widely from 200,000 to 400,000, what is certain is that more than 2 million people have fled their homes because of the fighting, and 4 million are in dire need of humanitarian assistance. It is widely accepted that this one of the worst crises in the world today.

To order Causes 1 and Causes 2 please go to www.waxploitation.com/buycauses or look for it on iTunes today.

Causes 1 includes rare and exclusive songs from some of the most compelling artists in the indie and alternative worlds: Animal Collective, The Black Keys, Bloc Party, Bright Eyes, Cornelius, David Sylvian, Death Cab for Cutie, (International) Noise Conspiracy, The Cure, The Shins, Spoon, Teargas & Plateglass, Thievery Corporation and Travis.

Intrepid readers may have noticed that Clarence Clemons, aka “The Big Man” is appearing at Barnes & Noble (Lincoln Triangle) on October 21 to promote his new book, Big Man Real Life & Tall Tales (with Don Reo and a foreword by Bruce Springsteen). While we can’t really expect The Boss to show up at Barnes & Noble, the next night Clarence will be at B.B. Kings to receive an award from Little Kids Rock, and according to the press release, the evening will feature live performances by Clemons and several “special guests” as well as Little Kids Rock students

https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid=3573

Clemons will receive the inaugural “Big Man Of The Year” award one day after the book’s release on Oct. 22 during the “Right To Rock” benefit at NYC’s B.B. King’s Blues Club. Proceeds from the night’s event, which includes several performances by special guests yet to be named, will benefit “Little Kids Rock,” an organization that helps fund music education programs in public schools throughout the country by providing teachers with free musical instruments and training.

Speaking of Fender, the night will also include an auction featuring the company’s famous guitars and signed by such folks as Eric Clapton, Elvis Costello, Phil Collins, Mark Knopfler, Chrissie Hynde, The Doobie Brothers and Ringo Starr.

This auction benefits the City of Hope which is a truly outstanding organization here in Southern California. They took amazing care of a dear friend who lost his life a few years ago and the care provided by City of Hope was just tremendous.

I saw this on ebay and thought I'd pass it on to my fellow Elivs fans.

Big names from art, animation, music & poetry make some Noise for charity

Monday 15 Nov 2010

The NOISE festival is running a charity ‘Secret Santa’ art sale this Saturday November 20, where you can pick up postcards and art by well-known artists, musicians and other creatives.

The fundraising sale consists of 200 original one-off postcard-sized artworks created and donated by leading artists including renowned doodlers Jon Burgerman and Pete Fowler, Academy Award winning Aardman Animations -- plus Red or Dead fashion label founder Wayne Hemingway, legendary singer-songwriter Elvis Costello, Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy, Mancunian DJ and producer Mr Scruff.

The exclusive artworks are signed on the back so buyers don’t know the identity of the artist
until they have purchased the postcard -- though some artists's work should be instantly recognisable. Each art postcard will cost just £45, regardless of whether it has been made by a famous name or an emerging artist from the NOISEfestival.com website.

All proceeds of the sales will go direct to the national NOISE arts Charity, which is currently receiving no core funding for its work in promoting new talent. This fundraiser will help the organisation to continue their dedicated work to support original creative talent.

Education Foundation to hold Annual Gala

Thursday, 17 March 2011

LINWOOD – The local education foundation will hold its seventh annual gala Saturday, March 26 at the Atlantic City Country Club in Northfield.

The Linwood Education Foundation helps raise thousands of dollars annually to supplement both of the district’s schools – Belhaven Middle School and Seaview Elementary School.

One of its biggest projects this year was funding the installation of wireless service to both schools and to the city’s arboretum.

“We are proud to have been able to supply the funding for wireless service this year not only to the schools but to the arboretum,” President Jeffrey Reses said.

At this year’s Gala for Education, the foundation will honor Linwood residents George and Lori Butrus for many years of community service to the school district, including their most recent involvement with the Linwood Arboretum, Reses said.

“Honoring George and Lori this year is a perfect fit,” he said. “Not only have they have made numerous contributions to the community and school district over the years, but this year they donated hours of service to developing and maintaining the arboretum.”

In addition to the wireless initiative, the foundation has funded many projects over the years. A list of those projects can be found on the foundation's website, www.leflinwood.org.

This year’s gala will feature, dinner, dancing and a silent auction. Black tie is optional and music will be provided by the band CTO Heat featuring Linwood’s own Kim Wood. Silent auction items this year include a Fender Squire Guitar autographed by Elvis Costello, four tickets to the Doobie Brothers, a reserved table at Boogie Nights, a Yamaha guitar autographed by Sammy Hagar, a four-night stay in Myrtle Beach, a Viking cooking class for two, bottle service package for 10 with limo for Dusk, an autographed DeSean Jackson Eagles jersey , four lower level seats at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore for a game between the Orioles and Yankees, an autographed Mark Sanchez New York Jets helmet, gift certificates to area businesses and dinner packages.

Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased at www.leflinwood.org or by calling Reses at (609) 517-0453.

Could this mean that there is going to be a "new" release: a box set of his entire catalog?
Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.
