Re: Random Thoughts
Going to see Sweeney Todd with the boyfriend's family today. Wish me luck! (They're not really used to people quite as crazy as myself).

Sweeney Todd was good, but I did get carded, which sucked.

A yellow for dissent.
This is my parents' satsuma tree in Pensacola, Florida. No, they didn't have an ice storm, my dad turned the sprinklers on during the freeze to try to save the fruit. Was not successful. I love satsumas.

Second day back at work having been off since 21st December.
I spent a fantastic two week period with my 13 week ( ) old daughter. She's now making lovely little gurgling noises which has got me talking jibberish back to her (I've had a lot of practice at talkng jibberish over the years!).

I've been making a lot of noises, mostly moaning and groaning. Been trying to get rid of a kidney stone. Dang, they're painful.

I feel your pain, Spooks.
Well, actually, my cat Socks feels your pain. At least you don't have to pee in the sink to get medical attention!

Apparently, 'spend less time on computer' was the #1 New Year's Resolution amongst EC Fans.

well, I'm usually ambulatory. and lumpy, so I'll give you that. I've just been hanging out with google (bot) and ichiro (crawler) and I began to get this paranoid feeling that everybody had put me on their "foe" list and I was disappearing bit by bit from cyberspace.

Yeah I noticed that Google (bot) and ichiro (Crawler) have been visiting the board a lot lately. Baseball's offseason must be dull in the Pacific Northwest.
I don't know about everyone else, but I always get slammed with new projects and obligations after I get back from the Christmas-New Year's break.

The whole month of January is crazy busy for we folks in the payroll industry. That's why I have to work harder at slacking.

Best afternoon ever. EC, empty house, and Chinese.
It's great having a boyfriend who is also my personal bio tutor.
And, lastly: Why isn't Rufus Wainwright more famous?

Re: Random Thoughts
I was wondering at first what you meant about the bio tutor bit there - it sounded a bit scary, you being a youngster and all.
Talking of youngsters, my oldest is 15 today. It's always amazing when another age gets broached, and people are generally amazed (due to my youthful looks etc. etc.). He was meant to be at a similarly older mate's house last night for a party, but the lad argued with his dad and hit him in some way, and it was called off. Quite right too. So he stayed in to revise for his exam, and was rewarded today with some nice prezzies (he really appreciated Who's Next?, and said nicely that we always choose things for him that he really wants without having to ask him, which made me chuffed), and endless food. I have to confess I did one of the best roasts ever - chicken, with a perfect rich sherry gravy, proper bread sauce [that's a trad English accompaniment for chicken or turkey, and is divine when well made], and potatoes roasted in goose fat, which they say is the best way, and they are entirely correct, it's awesome. I also made an apple pie with home-made pastry. I don't often make that, normally use a frozen one, which is OK, but this one was very good. Instead of resting the dough for 20 mins, I did so for 4 hours as I failed to get it ready for when we ate (mid afternoon), and instead we watched Casino Royale and had it in the evening. This clearly worked. It was firm and waxy and very easy to roll and handle.
I can remember quite clearly what it felt like to be 15, though as ever it's hard to know if the way you project the state of your mind at that past time is a reflecton of now or a real recollection of then, but I can think of songs, places, people and be almost transported back a la Proust. I got really drunk around that birthday for the first time.
Now I'm a sad old git who makes New Year's resolutions about spending MORE time online wittering on about anything that takes his fancy, especially food and spelling, but who was busy eating for England out in Madrid this week rather than keeping Mood company. I also have an undeniable crush on Eva Green. It's the big blue eyes and black hair and fair, freckled skin combo, and that gorgeous accent, and the playfulness of eyes and expression. Women have their Daniel Craig moments, and I have mine with Eva - the three dresses, purple, green (especially) and red that she wears in the film are all stunning. (OK, that list above is incomplete, her bod is a marvel too.) I loved her as Serafina Pekkala in Golden Compass, one of Pullman's loveliest creations. I haven't seen The Dreamers, but I have, ahem, seen photos of her in it and blushed. My one issue is the make-up. Way too much of it in Casino Royale, she looks gorgeous in the scene where she isn't wearing any, and check the panda eyes out here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eva_Green
It's a phase she'll grow out of.
Rufus is too left-field to be a big mainstream figure. It's not (just) the gay thing, it's that he's so vaulting in his ambitions and range that he could never make up the kind of neat pigeon-holeable package to make him huge. I like it that way, he's known, he's feted, he has a definite place, but he won't become huge.

Hehe. Bio major. He's only got two years on me, don't worry.Otis Westinghouse wrote:I was wondering at first what you meant about the bio tutor bit there - it sounded a bit scary, you being a youngster and all.
And that's an excellent answer to the Rufus question. I just chalked it up to the general public having sucky taste.
My little brother is going to be 16 next month. Total heart attack. Just wait until I'm a parent, jeez.
