Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .
Walking down my town's Main Street this afternoon I encountered a poster for a Laura Cantrell show later this month on April 24th up river in Kingston, NY. What stood out on the poster, which was a reproduction of her Kitty Wells album, was this quote:
"If Kitty Wells had done "Rubber Soul" it would have been Laura Cantrell"
Elvis Costello
"If Kitty Wells had done "Rubber Soul" it would have been Laura Cantrell"
Elvis Costello
"....there's a merry song that starts in 'I' and ends in 'You', as many famous pop songs do....'

Early Sunday morning MUTV were showing an old match from 1979. During a section before showing the Match Oliver's Army was played when they were talking about Trivial Pursuit being invented in this year.
Second time I've heard Elvis being played on there they used Walk us uptown earlier in the year

Diana appeared without Elvis at another Don Rickles tribute last year.

When she was coming up with her set for the evening, "I asked Don what he wanted to hear," recalled the musician Diana Krall, "and he said 'What I'd really like to hear is Elvis.' I love you, Don."
Of course, Mr. Rickles took the time at the end to poke holes in any of the goodwill surrounding him, from Mr. De Niro's tendency to mumble to Mr. Stamos, who is "looking for a dad."
"Diana Krall? Her husband, Elvis Costello, is the real star. He couldn't be here because he wanted money."

John Pizzarelli puts a distinctive spin on his cover of "Alison" from his latest record "Double Exposure". One of the better cover versions of this song I have heard and a decent stab at making it a part of the great American Songbook:

I'll give this a read & let you know if it's any good!

In The Thrill of it All (named after a Roxy Music song) Joseph O'Connor combines both approaches. His fictional group, Ships in the Night, formed in the grim crucible of Luton Polytechnic circa 1982, become a global success, fronted by the Bowie-esque Fran Mulvey, a Vietnamese orphan raised in Rotherham. Yet the novel also has cascades of Hornbyesque lists – of records, artists, poets – and walk-on parts for the likes of Patti Smith and Elvis Costello.

This has been airing in recent days on Spike (the only cable channel named after an EC album). EC can be seen in the audience at least three times, during spots by Jerry Seinfeld, Brian Williams, and Don Rickles himself.scielle wrote:Elvis & Diana were in attendance at this Don Rickles Tribute at the Apollo in NYC tonight.

A unusually informal photo has strayed my way. It's from August 1982 & we see Elvis & co. relaxing with Fools Face , a band who supported a show in Kansas City

ELVIS COSTELLO, NYC 1981
Deborah Feingold
The spectacles seem more like PTC '83 era so I'm doubting the 1981 date.

Elvis has a touring librarian?

Vancouver Orchestra’s new Composer in Residence writes for the curious
And, though she’s first and foremost a creative and innovative new music composer, she’s had some very high level contact with the non-classical music world, specifically with jazz diva Diana Krall and Krall’s partner Elvis Costello.
“That came from me being a professional copyist way back, for various people,” says Morlock. “At one point they needed a copyist for some music by The Chieftains. Then Elvis needed a touring librarian, so I became that person for him and Diana in 2006 or 2007. This certainly affected my own work, but not in the ways you might expect. I travelled and heard some amazing jazz musicians, enjoying seeing other cultures, meeting dozens and dozens of people everywhere we went.”
