Elvis Costello - North Sea Jazz 2004
Date: July 9, 2004
Venue: PWA zaal, The Hague, The Netherlands
Source: FM broadcast
Sound quality (1-10): 10
Show notes: The second set of a show Costello did with the Dutch Metropole Orchestra as part of the 2004 North Sea Jazz festival.
Line up:
Elvis Costello - Vocals
Steve Nieve - Piano
Metropole orchestra, conducted by Vince Mendoza
Recording notes: Excellent FM broadcast. I recorded this from radio to minidisc, and later transferred it to CDR. There are a few drop outs and some annoying radio announcements, but this is as good as an FM broadcast can get.
FM broadcast >> Sharp MD MT20 portable minidisc recorder >> Realtek AC97 audio >> Goldwave 4.12 >> CD WAV 1.52 (trackmarks) >> CDR
Total time: 57:11
1.Barcelona (instrumental overture) (4:35)
2.Favourite hour (4:09)
3.That's how you got killed before (4:25)
4.When did I stop dreaming? (6:13)
5.Can you be true? (4:06)
6.Almost ideal eyes (5:07)
7.Speak darkly my angel (4:10)
8.When green eyes turn blue (4:52)
9.Watching the detectives (6:11)
10.Episode of blonde (7:28)

Enjoy!

I'd just like to say that I'm still seeding this, and will do indefinitely, so that everyone who wants can get this fantastic orchestrated version of Episode Of Blonde and the other goodies. The only full version of Speak Darkly My Angel? The great percussive Almost Ideal Eyes where EC is struggling with the wordy first chorus but nails the others is great fun too. And opening a show with Favourite Hour obviously takes a lot of guts. (Great orchestral arrangement for that too, by Steve)
Having said that, I can't see why he chose those three North songs; they'd be right at the bottom of my ranking list...But they're all a lot better than on the record, so I'm glad he did!
Jump on, if you haven't already...and does anyone have a copy ofthe first set?
