Recent CD Purchases

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

It's been an early Xmas for me this week.....

Stuff my parents bought for me:

Johnny Cash - UnEarthed. Just staggering. So many highlights to choose from on this one. A very inspired cover of Pocahontas and The Caretaker is bone-chilling just for the chorus "Who's gonna cry when ol' John dies?"

Tom Waits - Strange Temptation. A damn good import of Mr. Waits doing his thing in front on an adoring audience of die-hards in Austin, TX.

Tom Russell - The Man From God Knows Where. Powerful and very weird song cycle about Tom Russell's family tree. Dave Von Ronk stops the show with The Outcast where he actually outdoes Tom Waits in the Demonic Carnival Barker sweepstakes.

All-Girl Summer Fun Band
The Wrens
The Essex Green
The Sixth Great Lake
Arab Strap
Jeffrey Lewis
Olivia Tremor Control

MBA, Accidents will happen.

Pip, dem's some great records! (I'm sure yours are 2, MBA, I am just not hip enough to know any of them! Though that reminds me, did I ever ask you about the Cucumbers, who I *think* were from Jersey City?? Maybe Hoboken. Talk about your fun obscure '80s bands...)

both are excellent, especially the KOL...beat the stuffings out of Spinal Crap...I mean The Darkness.

the Let It Be Naked case just fell apart in my hands. the center piece, the one holding the discs, came right out. no clue how to get it back in w/o breaking it into pieces.

lord. what crap.

(at least i have good chocolate. it's that time of year, we roll in the choco and food gifts this time o' year.)

That's hilarious VG, I'd missed it. I'm laughing especially at "the one holding the discs".

Freight Train Heart - Jimmy Barnes. Replacing old vinyl.
Warren Zevon - Warren Zevon. Adding to my vinyl.

Those are indeed some great choices Pip, especially the stones.

Otis, I was in a Fopp yesterday! Covent Garden. So much better than our crappy Music Zone.

The new one from Outkast. Lordy, this is good! And a load of others - £66 worth. Not that I can afford it.

Mmmmm...cheapo cds......

Hey PoP, I won't hear a word against that Music Zone, those 3 for 2 deals were constantly diminishing my funds...the only crap thing about it was the bouncers on the door.

Fopp rocks though, and is ultimately superior to Music Zone...there's 2 in Glasgow and 1 in Edinburgh....jealous? *cue insane laughter*

Christmas Gifts 2003

Post by Verbal Kint »

Talking Heads 3 CD + DVD "Box" (Book) set. Perfectly arranged by artistic period, with Disc #2 the best era, in my opinion.

Passport: Infinity Machine
Passport: Iquacu
Graham Parker: Up Escalator
Van Morrison: Poetic Champions Compose
Dianna Krall: Live in Paris
Mahavishnu Orchestra with John McLaughlin: Between Nothingness and Eternity
Earth, Wind, and Fire: Gratitude
Phantom Planet: The Guest

Another Miles Davis Box: the Columbia Years. Four CD's arranged roughly by style. A repackage of one that I purchased years ago, which fooled my wife into thinking it was one that I do not yet have in the collection.

All stock stuff. Can't seem to find anything new that is worth it.
