And the ugly but better gymnasts were taken out and shot prior to the events.

Re: Random Thoughts
I haven't been watching nearly enough Olympics this year. Watched a bit last week but lately I've just been reading up online. Glad Canada has finally won a couple of medals.
On another topic, why is it that "migraine" is synonymous with "headache" for so many people? If you're at work and functioning fairly normally, I simply don't believe that you have a migraine!

The German who won the silver last night wasn't much of a looker.verbal gymnastics wrote:And the ugly but better gymnasts were taken out and shot prior to the events.

I was making reference to the little girl who was not as pretty as the one chosen to mime in the opening ceremony and your comment about the Chinese gymnasts.Who Shot Sam? wrote:The German who won the silver last night wasn't much of a looker.verbal gymnastics wrote:And the ugly but better gymnasts were taken out and shot prior to the events.
Eva Longoria is attractive in an obvious way isn't she? I didn't like the Victoria Beckham haircut though.Goody2Shoes wrote:During the tornado, hit in the head by flying debris, right after Victor was impaled on the fence post.ice nine wrote:

Talking of which - does Victoria Beckham have any discernible talent apart from being able to look like she's been sucking a lemon? (a comment which I will leave there )

Same as 'cold' and 'flu'. Lots of people refer to any minor cold virus as flu whereas in reality flu is like migraine, completely debilitating.RedShoes wrote:I haven't been watching nearly enough Olympics this year. I haven't watched a second of the Olympics. I didn't realise when I booked my holiday that I was travelling on the day it opened. GB seems to be doing good stuff. Why exactly is it that we can be GB for Olympics and England et al for footie? It makes no sense.

Yes it does - if we had a British or UK football team it would be comprised of 11 Englishmen anyway. It's just a way of saving embarrassment for the other nations. Actually, I don't know why I'm laughing - it's true!Otis Westinghouse wrote:Why exactly is it that we can be GB for Olympics and England et al for footie? It makes no sense.

Watch for the 'roids' allegations to start, if not already. And given the meteoric rise in talent in the sprinting events, it is worth taking a look at.migdd wrote:Phelps is amazing.
The Jamaican sprinters are incredible as well. Shelly-Ann Fraser is a phenominal athlete.
Meanwhile, the infant chinese gymnasts will be disqualified. There are anatomical features of puberty and the ability to bear children (not the obvious ones) that are simply not present in a few of these Chinese gymnasts. The Iliac crests of the pelvis flail out a little well before 16 years of age, due to a hormonal softening of the pubic symphysis that permits the pelvic inlet to expand commensurate with child bearing capability. At least two of these girls don't exhibit that anatomical characteristic. Granted, there are cultural difference in body habitus but this is too remarkable NOT to notice for wierd anatomists and physiologists who are fountains of useless knowledge.

Re: Random Thoughts
How come a British 14-year-old British diver is allowed but not a 14-year-old Chinese gymnast, however pre-pubescent she is physically? They didn't cover this point on the news.
Can 'Team GB' stuff the Russkies? Quite a feat if so.

I hope that's her own personal microphone!
She is getting creepy looking. Probably has less body fat than Michael Phelps.
(You can work a Phelps reference into about anything lately).

Re: Random Thoughts
I had a dream a couple of nights ago that I met Pophead. In a seafood/bar/restaurant on the water. And he was wearing a tye-dyed shirt.
I don't know. Could have been the wine. . . .

Was he only wearing a tye-dyed shirt?
I was cycling to work the other day and saw a familiar face in the street. Henry Rollins. I'd seen a review of a London show and knew it was more than likely. Sure enough, he had a show that evening. He was a lot shorter than I expected, I though he'd be 6 ft 4 or something. He had a nice face.

The move away from disposable carrier bags towards reusable 'bags for life' means that sales of plastic bin liners are on the increase.

Ha! It was definitely the wine. While I have no doubt we will meet someday, I can assure you I will NOT be wearing anything tye-dyed! Re: Random Thoughts
Good question, RTHTW. I myself have not completely made the move away from plastic bags, mostly because I use them for bin liners. Bin liners are not usually blowing across the landscape, so that's one point in their favor. The move away from disposable carrier bags towards reusable 'bags for life' means that sales of plastic bin liners are on the increase.

Re: Random Thoughts
People will use them sparingly if they're paying for them. The forward-thinking Irish outlawed plastic bags, what, 10 years ago. Why has it taken us so long? Why do so many shop assistants still offer me a bag or not even ask and just assume I want one?

When we've gone to Munich, we get charged for them. And they're not cheap either - usually about 25 eurocents. We learn to take them back out with us from the hotel when we shop in town.
Funny, just after I typed this, the Discovery Channel started running an episode of How It's Made and guess what they're talking about making - plastic bags!

The barber shop that recently opened in our sleepy little town was just closed down after it was found that the guys running it were dealing heroin. Nice.

There seems to be a "record" store around the corner from my dorm. I haven't checked it out yet, and probably won't; it seems to be mostly gangster rapping music, and I doubt it's actually got records. Although, nothing ventures, nothing gained, right?
