ELVIS CUP S/f - Imperial Bedroom V This Year's Model
It's looking like Get Happy will be in the final, having waltzed through every tie. Which of these two classics will GH be up against?

Imperial Bedroom has better songwriting, better singing, better musicianship, and for "Beyond Belief" alone is 10000x better than This Year's Model (which I love, don't get me wrong, but for me, TYM is just a fun album that shouldn't be ranked among Elvis' best). I guess that's just my opinion.
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

These are my top two albums and it's a very hard decision and....I voted for TYM by mistake (like "We've come on holiday by mistake!"). Add an extra IB vote at the end, if that's allowed. Sorry to be such an arse, Doofster.
I disagree with you there so much, Blue. But that's just your opinion.BlueChair wrote:TYM is just a fun album that shouldn't be ranked among Elvis' best

This Years Model was Elvis' second. Up to then, all I knew was My Aim Is True. I loved it, but it gave no warning of what was to come. When I first played TYM, I didn't hear what I expected at all, but I knew this was gonna be an important album for me. The BITE was ferocious. Nothing like what I'd gotten to know so well with MAIT.
When Imperial Bedroom came out, a lot of time (and Elvis music) had gone by. I already knew AF, Trust, and Get Happy. I was ready for IB. I grew to love the texturing and there were some incredible, great songs. But, as years have gone by, I play it knowing that I'm likely going to feel a bit lower at the end than when I put it on. I probably understand why, but I resist analyzing it. I love it, but choosing between the two is easy. TYM leaves me up and pumped and ready for anything. IB leaves me a bit sad.
So, This Years Model it is.

In most instances, the results have been so academic that it has been unnecessary for me to remind everyone of the closing date/time for the poll.
However, in light of the closeness of this tie and the importance of a place in the final v Get Happy!!, please can I advise you that you have until:
12.58 pm (GST) on Wednesday!!

Btw Blue, if you applied a lot of the same criteria to IB against Get Happy instead of TYM, you could make the same argument. But of course there's probably more to it.BlueChair wrote:Imperial Bedroom has better songwriting, better singing, better musicianship, and for "Beyond Belief" alone is 10000x better than This Year's Model (which I love, don't get me wrong, but for me, TYM is just a fun album that shouldn't be ranked among Elvis' best). I would rank two or three albums over these three... But THAT'S JUST MY OPINION!! OK??

I have voted IB just ´cause everybody underestimates this album, considering something like a vain attempt to become the new Paul McCartney (if not directly The Beatles), or something so. I miss some strength (his famous roar) on the way EC sings in this album, but the melodies are simply delicious.
Anyway, comparing IB with TYM is just like comparing butter with bourbon.
There´s a time for butter (the breakfast, for example... though Marlon Brando used it on other situations) and a time for bourbon (any time).
