Have given this a few spins now and it's really starting to grow on me in a big way. The band has such a talent for building these incredible sonic landscapes, with interesting little bits flying by here and there. You almost want things to go on a bit longer in certain places - at the end of "Reckoner" for example, where that little string figure comes in. The first song, "15 Step" is a bit misleading. It's a fine opener, but unlike anything else on the album - sort of like a lost track from Yorke's solo album. There's a lot less of the electronic blips and buzzes and more straight ahead bass and guitar (i.e. the second track "Bodysnatchers"). "Weird Fishes" is another gorgeous creation that just builds and builds into something really special. Could become my favorite track. "House of Cards" is another one I really like.
If you're any kind of fan of the band, it's worth getting - especially since you can name your own price. People who drifted away from the band around the time of Kid A and Amnesiac may find this more approachable.
Thom Yorke's voice is as lovely and creepy as ever. Not as poppy as "The Bends" but closer to "OK Computer". Nice to hear their music again instead of the beep bop boop.
"Jigsaw Falling Into Place" is the best track in my opinion

You snooze you lose!
Seriously, I ordered the deluxe box thingy, so I will have paid $80 when all is said and done - vinyl + download + CD , as well as whatever delicious art they have cooked up for this one.
Also Crooked Line...many thanks. I'm liking the whole mp3 thing lately, because I'm a little computer challenged, and torrents are waaay over my head at this point.
Now there's a choice for late on a Saturday! People slag the production on that record, and though I would argue that a masterpiece like Former Glory is unimprovable on a solo acoustic rendition at a good gig (and I have a couple of perfect examples from bootlegs), it was an interesting move to work with a new team and play around with the soundds a bit. Arguably his strongest collection of songs in toto, though Retriever is also very potent.
There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more
Didn't care for it much at first but it's growing on me. I've heard five of Steely Dan's albums now and they're a current favourite of mine. Countdown To Ecstacy and Katy Lied are must haves. Aja comes in third. I like Pretzel Logic and The Royal Scam too but not as much.
