Re: BEST CLOSING SONGS OF ALL TIME - EC #9
interesting list. The Beatles' 'Tomorrow Never Knows" from Revolver is a glaring omission. Also, It is hard to ignore some of The Talking Heads' great closing songs (This Must be The Place (Naive Melody), The Overload, Drugs, Road to Nowhere, Cool Water, etc...) As for Elvis, he always has grea...

Re: Forgotton Elvis Golden Oldies
I heard "The World Of Broken Hearts" the other day. I forgot what a good cover it is. Sonically, it could have fit very nicely on Imperial Bedroom, if Elvis wanted to include covers.

Re: "Momofuku" review
One of my only complaints with the album is the nearly mono sound of some of the tracks. I am all for a "quick and dirty" sound (very rock n' roll), but songs like American Gangster Time are just barely in stereo. The song feels like classic Attractions from This Years Model. But, This Yea...

Re: "Momofuku" review
Some more observations. I'm not too fond of Drum & Bone, but it is a curious mix of "My Mood Swings" and "Monkey to Man", with a little "Dust" thrown in. I am very fond of Flutter & Wow. It sounds to me like Elvis decided to perform a song of his own as if it we...

Re: Favorite Pete Thomas drum moments
There is a drum fill about 2 minutes into "Home is Anywhere you Hang Your Head" that is one of the best Ringo imitations ever.
And, the end and fade-out on "13 Steps Lead Down". Great!!!

Re: "Momofuku" review
I agree with wordnat's song-by-song review for the most part. But for me, My Three Sons is quite good, and Drum & Bone is the sure misfire. Also, as much fun as Mr. Feathers is, I do not see it holding up to many listens. I definitely agree about "Song With Rose" - gorgeous and perfect.

Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'
Well, I received the LP on Thursday. I stupidly thought that the download mp3's would be available right away (Not until May 1st). But, luckily my old turntable worked for the most part. I recorded it on my Mac and filtered out some of the noise from the old, bad needle I have. Unlike others, I hone...

Re: 1981, Almost Blue sleevenote
Thanks johnfoyle, I have all of these tracks myself, except for George Jones' Brown to Blue. I made a version (quickly adding Brown to Blue) with some of the B-sides and out take covers that EC recorded added as well: 1. Why Don't You Love Me (Like You Used to Do)?-Hank Williams 2. Sweet Dreams (Of ...

Re: "Re-Making Elvis' Albums for Fun
I agree about ATUB. It just missed greatness. I was a little disappointed when ATUB came out, because I loved so many of these songs performed solo/acoustic when Elvis was opening for Bob Dylan that year. Songs like It's Time and Starting to Come seem much better to me performed stripped down like t...

"Re-Making Elvis' Albums for Fun
Just for fun, I have been making my own, personal, definitive versions of some of Elvis' albums. Don't get me wrong, I love nearly all of Elvis' albums as they were released. But, it is a fun challenge to customize the running order, and add b-sides from the time period, to Elvis' albums. A good exa...

Re: Evis Costello and the Imposters "Dream Ticket"
Back in '86, Elvis was planning a gig with Los Lobos, to perform King of America all the way through.
That would have been a dream ticket.
Plus, you could add The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, whom Los Lobos has been known to play with as well.

Lyrical Themes in Elvis' albums
I never hear much discussion of literary themes in Elvis Costello albums. I don't want to call Elvis' albums "concept albums", but they do have many lyrical themes running throughout them. Some of my suggestions: This Year's Model: treating woman as inanimate objects Armed Forces: "Em...

Re: Discuss your rediscovery of Elvis Costello?
Spike was the album that got me into Elvis first. I had "rediscovered' the Beatles in the late 80's because their albums, and ex-Beatle solo albums, had finally come out on CD. So, I bought Spike because of Paul McCartney's involvement. I remember being impressed first by Elvis' vocals-then of ...

Re: Evis Costello and the Imposters "Dream Ticket"
It was a tough choice for either Tom Waits or Nick Lowe. I love them both so much. I ended up voting for Tom because they haven't performed together since '86-'87, as far as I know. I also want to suggest that a dream ticket might be Elvis and Chrissie Hynde. Luckily I got to see another dream ticke...

Re: Elvis when you least expect it
I just saw again the Season 6 episode of The West Wing, where Jimmy Smits (as Congressman Matt Santos) sings (badly I might add) parts of Alison, because a reporter named Alison gave him a good review of his debate performance. I wonder how much money Elvis gets for something like this. Elvis used t...
