EC mentioned the reggae Tighten Up compilations in the On the Road documentary as being essential listening at teenage parties in the early 70's. All those great Trojan singles were on there, and The Dave and Ansell Collins tracks was one of the best!

James Blunt and THAT monkey

I went to see James Blunt last night...OK OK, don't all shout. He wasn't all that bad, AND he did a Slade song! Anyway, on the overpriced merchandise stall (£8 for a keyring anyone?) the tour T Shirt has a familiar motif. The monkey from EC's The Monkey speaks his mind tour! It was the same dancing ...

For a man with SO many songs and SO many lyrics, EC very rarley seems to make a mistake....but that would be a good themes for a live collection, songs where EC has gone wrong! There's a challenge. Would BRILLIANT MISTAKES be too obvious a title?

Obscure production

I used to have a 12" single produced by Elvis, by a group called Big Heat, and the song was called Watch Me Catch Fire. That was pretty obscure, as I have not heard anything else by that band. This would have been in the early to mid-80's.

Richard & Judy

Elvis was involved in Richard & Judy's daily 'You Say We Pay' quiz today! A caller has to give clues to a photo, and the hosts Richard & Judy have to guess. A picture of EC was shown, the caller ran out of time!

Is this post just too trivial for words??

Riverway

I just sold a CD on Ebay - Elvis's Dad Sings Elvis, which is Ross MacManus singing Presley. The buyer was none other than Ronan MacManus, son of Ross! Sadly, they have knocked Riverway on the head! He is trying to collect all the recordings by his dad.

BBC Coverage

On BBC3 you could choose the band you watched and after 9 one of the options was Elvis - there were some songs not shown in the BBC4 half hour, including Clubland which they captioned "Clubland Blonde" for some reason!

Leeds

Elvis mentioned that it cost him $300,000 because Steve played 1.5 seconds of Leonard Bernstein on the new record (I assume he means the quote from 'America' on Button my Lip.) Also, was this the same venue that The Who's Live at Leeds was recorded? I am sure I read it was in The Refectory at Leeds ...

Elvis and my wife

ELvis is banned from our house. I have to play him in the car or on headphones. My wife DID try, she saw him on the Brutal Youth tour ("too loud") with the Brodskys and with Steve. However, some time I catch her singing something All this Useless Beauty, or Alison. She does like the songs ...

Liverpool

Hi John, I am a new person to this forum, but and old EC fan. I have seen him at Liverpool and Manchester and have booked for Leeds in May. I wasn't waiting afterwards. Was half joking about the guitar roadie, though EC is clearly the boss, and why not? I have seen him 15 times now, starting in 1984...

Elvis and the guitar roadie

Is it my imagination or does Elvis treat his guitar roadie with total contempt?? At Liverpool he would hold his guitar out at the end of each song and shout "Come ON!" if it wasn't changed in 3.8 seconds. And, he seemed to change the set at will by shout out a song title to The Imposters a...

EC in Manchester

Elvis was great last night but I don't think the audience deserve him! It took an age for them to get going, and I don't think the sterile Bridgewater Hall helped. It was great to hear him do No Wonder (a lovely song, much overlooked) and how many other artists could start a show with a B side? (Big...
