I like the line "She was selling speed boats in a trade show when he met her" in When I Was Cruel. I remember one reviewer saying EC sang it as though it was the most dispicable job in the world.

Also, I love his voice on Damnation's Cellar, "there are murders to solve."

When Out of Our Idiot came out I regularly saw it in the Various Artists section of record shops! It was credited to Various due to EC's pseudonyms on the album.

EC said the tune was based on True Love by Cole Porter, and Scarlet Ribbons and he sang it on a BBC documentary about Spike. I love the song, but I am not sure that cellophane windows would last too long on a warm winter stove.

My local Virgin is selling the Hip O digipak editions at £5.99. No extra tracks but nice to have anyway! I don't want to be tempted...but I probably will be! It's an expensive business being an EC fan.

I would LOVE a copy. Incidentally, there is a man on the Joe Jackson yahho group who compiled live bootleg versions of every song that JJ perfromed live, including cover versions. He did it in chronological order where possible and chose the best version of classics plus songs performed rarely. It r...

When I bought this LP in 1980ish it was in a market stall in Bradford. The elderly woman working there kept getting an LP sleeve out of the rack, tutting, and putting it back and choosing another one. She eventually chose one saying "I was trying to find one that isn't marked, but they're all l...

On a reverse theme there is a Stiff Little Fingers song called Bits of Kids, the title taken from a line in Watch Your Step. And there is a band supporting The Who in the US at the moment called Tragically Hip, but I am not sure if they took their name from a line in Town Cryer.

I don't like the song Swine from The Juliet Letters, but the music is fantastic if you play it loud. It reminds me of some Hitchcock film music, the wipers fighting to keep the rain off the windscreen, the glare of oncoming traffic, the flight from justice.....what am I on about?
