As always....our guy will still always surprise with his next collaboration. I mean has anyone ever envisioned these two names in a single pairing like this? I think it does imply them as the same act by my reading of this. And as always, I am sure it will work...fitting like a glove! Go if you can and enjoy!

There was this in the King of America reissue liner notes:bronxapostle wrote:I mean has anyone ever envisioned these two names in a single pairing like this?
"However, I nearly pulled off a plan to play entirely new arrangements of these songs "live" on MTV with a different band, in a different U.S. city, every day for one week. Although the musicians' responses — Los Lobos, ZZ Top, The Heartbreakers, and John Mellencamp's band among them — were very positive, the money to pull this off was never found, and the idea went unrealised."

Keith Carlock is a beast of a drummer. He's been with the Steely Dan tour for many years and always a highlight of their shows.

More "friends" have been added to the bill, which now includes Dobro and lap steel guitar player Jerry Douglas (of the Sugarcanes) and guitarist Mike Seal (of the Jerry Douglas Band). This might point to Elvis playing a few songs from either Secret, Profane & Sugarcane or National Ransom. Some tracks from those albums have not been played live for ten years!

Makes me wonder if anything here will be included in the King of America & Other Realms release that has been alluded to. The T-Bone Burnett connection is there.Man out of Time wrote:More "friends" have been added to the bill, which now includes Dobro and lap steel guitar player Jerry Douglas (of the Sugarcanes) and guitarist Mike Seal (of the Jerry Douglas Band). Sorry must have missed this alluding to a KoA+ release- how concrete is this, and when, and by whom?boywithaproblem wrote:[Makes me wonder if anything here will be included in the King of America & Other Realms release that has been alluded to. The T-Bone Burnett connection is there.

It’s buried in the press release for Boy Named If (Alive at Memphis Magnetic):Top balcony wrote:Sorry must have missed this alluding to a KoA+ release- how concrete is this, and when, and by whom?boywithaproblem wrote:[Makes me wonder if anything here will be included in the King of America & Other Realms release that has been alluded to. Having played our first appearance of 2022 at JazzFest in New Orleans before celebrating the opening of the Bob Dylan Centre in Tulsa and even working up an encore of “Like A Rolling Stone” in the dressing room of “Cain’s Ballroom”, we had now returned to Memphis Magnetic to rehearse for upcoming U.K. and European dates and while we let The Imposters and Charlie loose on the “Hey Clockface” numbers that I’d recorded alone in Helsinki but would now earn their place in the coming shows before lighting “Indoor Fireworks” with a different match and finding a minor mood in “Brilliant Mistake” and filed them away for a future collection called, “King Of America & Other Realms”.
So I it seems like King of America will be the next big reissue after Songs of Bacharach and Costello. Presumably late 2023 or early 2024? I’m guessing the December show by that name will be part of things and now maybe this show too (they are both benefits for the Musician Treatment Foundation). There were also rumors a few months ago about Costello and T-Bone Burnett recording some new Coward Brothers material.

Seems like an odd pairing, but I've always dug ZZ. And it would be loads of fun to see Elvis w/ Jazzmaster ablaze in tonal fuzz distortion and with sweaty rage, spitting and screaming these lyrics:
She likes the art museum, she don't like Pavlov's dog
She fun at the mind museum, she likes it in a London fog
She don't like other women, she likes whips and chains
She likes cocaine and filppin' out with great Danes
She's about all I can handle, it's too much for my brain

I like Nashville and would consider going, but the date doesn't work for me, oh well.
