Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.

Elvis Costello and The Roots: Wise Up Ghost - FUV Live Special - 2013

10.21.13

by Rita Houston

With Don Was, Elvis Costello and Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson in the same room, talk of music is inevitable, and it's sure to be seasoned with respect, history, and even a drop-in by Dave Chappelle. Together within the hallowed walls of Electric Lady Studios, their conversation turned to another meeting of musical minds: Elvis Costello and The Roots: Wise Up Ghost.

To take care of introductions, Don Was is the President of Blue Note Records, with a long history as a producer and musician. Producer and veteran drummer Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson holds down the groove for The Roots and Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. And Elvis Costello? Few artists possess such a varied and vital legacy.

With Don as moderator and the album's co-producer Steve Mandel hiding in the audience, Ahmir and Elvis each told us their stories of the how, why and wisdom of Wise Up Ghost.

Very cool. Thanks for posting. Quest mentions having the 12" single of Pills and Soap. Was there such a thing? There is a 7":
