Los Angeles visual effects design company A52 today detailed its contributions to the latest broadcast campaign from the creatives at advertising agency Team One, and Gorgeous Enterprises/ Anonymous Content director Peter Thwaites, for Lexus.

For the campaign's five :30 spots, Team One's credits include executive creative directors Chris Graves and Jon Pearce, creative director Phillip Squier ("Instinct"), copywriter John Hage ("Instinct") and executive producer Jack Epsteen. The first spots three feature international recording artists Diana Krall, Elvis Costello and John Legend commenting on music as they savor it from inside a Lexus. Edited by Rock Paper Scissors' Brad Waskewich, these three "See Music" spots were finished at A52 and feature cosmetic effects and graphic contributions from A52's artists.

Well I missed the ship on the actual 'discussion' part, but what the hell. It doesn't bother me too much, really. I had my initial 'what the hell' moment, but quickly realised that it's not really that big a deal. But perhaps again I've been brainwashed by my generation....(only 17). The way I see it, it doesn't change the music at all. And that's why we're here. The music. By the way, first post....howdy y'all.
Why don't you write about it in your blag?

Howdy StrictTime. Nice to see young Elvis fans on the Board. I got into Elvis at about the same age although of course we were all much younger then...

Joe Jackson's One More Time is being used in a Taco Bell TV ad.; his manager Michael Maska has posted this comment to a J.J. discussion list-

While I don't feel a particular need to explain this, since so many
of you are commenting on this I will do my best to do just that. A
few years ago I had lunch with another manager whose client's music
was used in a very high profile ad campaign and whose client also
appeared in the ad. I asked why he'd do such a thing. His response
was interesting and I took it to heart. As you recall a few years
ago Lincoln/Mercury licensed "Steppin' Out" for a six week campaign
on tv and radio. After that campaign ran, I had more than a few
people tell me that it served to remind them of what a great song
"Steppin' Out" is and some even said they either got their old Joe
Jackson records out again or went to a record store and bought one.
When an artist gets to be of a certain age, other than a handful of
triple A stations, no one is going to play their music anymore and
MTV and VH-1 certainly aren't.
That manager's response was exactly
that. These commercials are aimed at a particular demographic and
how else can you get this music exposed to a wide audience? When I
was sent the proposed ad for Taco Bell I immediately loved the fact
that it didn't have a voice-over and so for 30 seconds an audience
watching a football game was going to hear "One More Time" and
nothing else.

I wonder how old this guy is? Hey, dude, there is the crazy thing called the Internet and this new thing they are calling Web 2.0, but it's really just a re-geritation of fancier acronyms and cooler meta data driven UIs.... You should check it out sometime. Or you can get a jump start on the revolution by reading Code 2.0 - http://pdf.codev2.cc/Lessig-Codev2.pdf

Viva la Revolucion! ...or NOT (your choice really!)

PS - Isn't music timeless??

Well, the chalupas are good. And the empanadas.

It was a real event when Taco Bell first opened up here.

Cow pats? Just how friendly are you with farm animals????

But yes, it was just a wide spot in the road. Once upon a time. God willing, it will be again. But with Taco Bell this time.

Mike Caldwell blogs

(extract)

The truth is that I fell in love with Beethoven in the backseat of a Lexus with Elvis Costello. A few summers ago, in 2007, in fact, Lexus was running a series of commercials featuring not only Costello, but a number of artists describing their favorite music. “Beethoven. He wrote a few toe-tappers,” Costello said dryly in the commercial. Nothing could be a greater understatement, though. The music Costello is listening to is the Ninth Symphony's second movement, from beginning to end about the most thrilling and emotionally-manipulative piece of music ever written. But, what is odd (and interesting) about the commercial is that Costello compares it to rock music, and with that comparison, at least for me, he transformed not only classical, but rock as well.

YouTube , by the way, now has this for the ad. with Elvis -
