Post by The Deliveryman »

According to http://www.musictap.net :
Hip-O Records will release a DVD from Elvis Costello and Allen Toussaint called Hot as a Pistol/Keen as a Blade, scheduling November 21 as the issue date.

Does anybody have any information what will be included on this dvd?

Ah, yes! I'd forgotten about that one being filmed. The only show I could think of being filmed was Bonnaroo. Wow, I sure hope it's the Montreal concert and that they give us the full show.

Hopefully this gets a seperate European release. Hip-o still have a bizzare policy of not sending orders to (most) European countries. In the past I have had to get stuff sent to a North American friend, for sending on. That applies to Hip-o Select ; the Hip-o label seems to link sales to Amazon.

It's amazing to me that the release date is set for Nov. 21 and we have seen no further details concerning its content.

The $50 advertising budget has already been spent.

From what you say john it sounds like I'll be asking a favour from a Transatlantic friend. All I need to do now is find one

The CD Universe page now confirms that this is from Montreal, but it still lacks a track listing.
New Orleans R&B figure Allen Toussaint is a songwriter, musician, and arranger who has worked with some of the all-time greats in the field. Lee Dorsey, Dr. John, and Aaron Neville have all called on Toussaint's talents at crucial stages in their careers, and now comes the turn of Elvis Costello. Costello hooked up with Toussaint in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the two have created a powerful collection of songs packed full of emotion. This live set was recorded in Montreal in 2006 and sees Toussaint and Costello joined by the latter's faithful band, the Imposters.

Complete setlist (below) from Montreal show.
Once again, grevious errors are being made (if tentative DVD tracklist is correct...).

Bedlam, Pump It Up, Detectives ? Absolutely unnecessary.

Meanwhile,
On your Way Down, Nearer to You, Shoo-Ra, Slippin' And Slidin', Get Out Of My Life Woman, The Greatest Love, Ascension Day, That Day Is Done, That's How You Got Killed Before
are all excluded?

Ridiculous.

Costello, Toussaint Captured Live On DVD

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Elvis Costello and Allen Toussaint's acclaimed live show in support of their collaborative album "The River in Reverse" is the subject of the DVD "Hot As a Pistol, Keen As a Blade," due Nov. 21 via Hip-O/UME. The film was recorded July 3 at Montreal's Pleins feux Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier with Costello's band the Imposters and the Crescent City Horns.

"Hot As a Pistol" sports nearly two hours of live performances, from "The River in Reverse" tracks like the title song, "Who's Gonna Help Brother Get Further" and "Six-Fingered Man" to Costello solo material such as "Monkey to Man," "Tears Before Bedtime," "Watching the Detectives" and "Clubland."

A performance of Costello's classic "Alison" is included as a bonus feature, as is an excerpt of the Matthew Buzzel film "Putting the River in Reverse" and interviews with both Costello and Toussaint.

The pair has wrapped its "River in Reverse" touring, although Toussaint has solo dates on tap through Dec. 18 in Chicago. Also on the books is a March 22-25, 2007, stand at Washington, D.C.'s Blues Alley.

Elvis attended the Allen Toussaint brunch show on 11/12/06. Allen’s show was fabulous as usual. Elvis joined Allen on stage for part of the set that included The Sharpest Thorn, Ascension Day, What Do You Want the Girl to Do?, The Greatest Love and a rousing rendition of Yes We Can Can.

After the show Elvis indicated that the set list for the forthcoming Montreal DVD was limited to due “technical issuesâ€
