Fake Band Names

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Fake Band Names

Post by noiseradio »

At a teacher training day today (always awful), several fellow teachers and I wrote fake band names. Some were pretty funny. Here's a sampling:

Fascist Cat

Heckle and Jive

Black Pair'oJacks

and my personal favorite:

Pol Pot Pie

I know, it's sick. But....

:D ...
While I was at uni, I had a couple of bandnames rejected, and was in a couple of bands that never materialised into anything good...here are a few of those names, except unlike Noiseradio (and embarrasingly), these were serious thoughts...

We Hate Horses

The Spiral Diamonds

JR and his True Colours

Holy Motions

The Bourgeois Strategy

The Lonely Socialites

....Cringe Cringe Cringe! Still think the second and third are ones ok(ish) though!

Well, after I finally take that "Instant Piano" course on PBS, or whatever it's called, learn to sing, and recall the lost lyrics to "Trash Compactor Love", I'm going to start me a band where record stores won't have to make new markers for us, and it's going to be called "Various Artists."

Our first album will, naturally, be called "Greatest Hits."

Insane Anglo Warlord (an anagram of "Ronald Wilson Reagan")
Cosby, Sills, Cash and Chung (okay, that's an old SNL gag, but still...)

There are some marvellously warped minds out there. My fave is Rope's The Phase IV Tangalooloos.

The only feeble offerings I could offer would be cover bands called Stairs (for Steps) and Dry Dry Dry (for Wet Wet Wet).

The Fellatio Lovers.

They could write a song called 'She Knows What She's Supposed To Do (Oh Yeah)'.

A couple of great real band names:

Sandy Duncan's Eye
Stuckas Over Bedrock (I knew these guys! It's a Dickies reference and they were way into the Hanna-Barbera ouvre)
Live Nude Girl (I think several bands were using that one)

Along the lines of "Live Nude Girl"...I don't know whether or not anyone tried "Free Beer"

Other fictitious (as far as I know) names:

Herbal Ecstacy
The Sex Life of Charlie Brown
Pearls Before Swine
Human Growth Hormone
Johnson & Johnson

There's a band on at a local pub this week called Fuckingham Palace.

When I was a 16 year-old Joy Division (the best band name ever, of course) obsessive, we struggled long and hard for a band name, and came up with the moderately embarrassing Outside Volume, but also on the shortlist were Crawling Hectic (very 1980), and The Bulging Underpants (which, of course, we should have gone for).

New Order apparently toyed with The Sunshine Valley Dance Band.

Then there was Otis Westinghouse and the Lifts and sundry other EC pseudonyms (one of you triviameisters can list each and every one of 'em WITHOUT CHECKING). And of course the unforgettable REM as Bingo Hand Job.
