Costello always made albums to be experienced as wholes. "This Year's Model" is new wave for sexually frustrated punks, "Get Happy!!" is a successful take on the classic R&B sound, and "Imperial Bedroom" is wistful, literate baroque pop. While a singles collection will get you those gems from otherwise lackluster LPs ("Everyday I Write the Book," "Thirteen Steps Lead Down"), take the Nick Hornby path and delve into all his studio work, even if the ladies aren't impressed that you can name every record.-MS
