Give me one Costello song that since the very first time you heard it, the chorus couldnt get off of your mind.

...When you know you have been captured you feel so civilized, and you look so pretty in your New Lace Sleeves.

I live that line in my cube, with my golden handcuffs tightly secured and my high priced condo waiting for me at home, every day of my life.

To all of the yunguns out there: when you come to that fork in the road between following your dream, your heart, your art, and your true calling on one side and the offer of security, comfort and expensive things on the other, just whisper the chorus of New Lace Sleeves to yourself.

Once you've sold yourself to materialism, it's hard, if not impossible to claw your way out.

And just think; all of this coming from me, a Registered Republican!

... And, oh yeah, I like Alison too.

"She's got all the things you need and some that you will never" (not a chorus but a memorable line when a girl who 'appears' to have it all walks by).

Taken out of context, I suppose I now understand why my wife gets pissed everytime I mouth the lyrics under these circumstances. It sounds, superficially, like a compliment.

I bought 7 Costello records in a row (this years model, armed forces, get happy, trust, punch the clock, blood and chocolate and spike).

And it all arrived in a few days. I listen to Trust just one time (and i really like it). but i didn´t remember this song. Such a great record, isn´t it?

When we had to do our heartbreaking top fifteen ranking here, I was surprised, and yet not, to find I had made NEW LACE SLEEVES my number one Elvis song.

Red Shoes. It was the very first song I ever heard by Elvis and I was so impressed I became a lifelong fan!

Bells are chiming for victory
There's a page back in history
45
They came back to the world that they fought for
Didn't turn out just like they thought
45
I wish that I could push a button
And talk in the past and not the present tense
And watch this hurtin' feeling disappear
Like it was common sense
It was a fine idea at the time
Now it's a brilliant mistake

When I'm in my angry/bitter mood, I find myself screaming from the inside:

Fiiiiiiiiiifteen petaaals!! One for every year I spent with you!

On second thought...there's probably an Elvis song for every mood and you just can't get them out of your head once they're there.
