Nothing But The Truth

Ruben Blades. Elvis Costello. Did the planets align? Or should I skip this record? I came across the title quite accidentally (or was it fate?) today and now I think I gotta have it. Opinions and reviews please. MP3s accepted as well. 8)

As far as I know, Elvis only plays guitar on the album.

Lou Reed, however, sings and plays guitar :D

If you want an album with a great Elvis appearance, I recommend Dan Hicks & The Hot Lick's Beating The Heat, which features a duet between Hicks and Elvis Costello on "Meet Me On The Corner"

there's a song credited to both Ruben and Elvis. I thought that would be interesting to hear.

Aside from "Shamed into Love," there's a second Costello/Blades composition on the album called "The Miranda Syndrome."

I like them both.

I wouldn't bother with The Miranda Syndrome but that is my personal view. Elvis doesn't sing on the record and just plays guitar as Blue says. The rest of the album does nothing for me.

I wouldn't waste any money on it.

thanks, guys for your input--but not you Poppet! I'm getting ARL-ish paranoid now thanks to you and your 'what if I'm one of them'. (just kidding, rope) I'm keeping an eye out for it. Found one on eBay, but it's currently going for $30, so I think I'll have to let it pass. The search will give meaning to my empty and desolate existence.

The Blades version of "Shamed" can be found on the "Lost Dogs" (? - I am at work and can't recall the entire title) tribute CD. Unless you really have to have the Miranda Syndrome, the Blades album is not worth $30 IMHO.

I always thought that, as a musician, Reuben Blades made a really great actor.

I love his portrayal of Diego Rivera in Tim Robbins' Cradle Will Rock

And yet, it's an underappreciated film, so the DVD is only like $10. Yeah!
