A Taste of Honey wins Best New Artist Grammy over the Cars and Elvis Costello
1979
The Grammys don’t have a great track record when it comes to picking the Best New Artist of any given year. The Beatles may have won in 1965, but they also gave it to the Starland Vocal Band in 1977 and to Debby Boone in 1978. Now let’s take a look at the nominees in 1979: the Cars, Elvis Costello, Toto, blues-rock guitarist Chris Rea, and disco duo A Taste of Honey, who topped the charts in 1978 with “Boogie Oogie Oogie.” The Grammys went with, of course, A Taste of Honey. We’re not knocking the group. “Boogie Oogie Oogie” is a fine song. But maybe, just maybe, the Cars or Elvis Costello deserved the award a little more.
This is a weird list, but no one will argue with #1.

A weird list indeed, kept expecting The Columbus Incident to feature.
Went thru from 50 - 1 and kept trying to anticipate what would be top.
I got it wrong but RS indeed nailed the disastrous #1.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention!!
