Elvis Costello reveals he stole his father's look (and dance moves) on The Late Show

Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Elvis Costello sat down with Stephen Colbert on Monday night’s episode of The Late Show to discuss his new memoir and his familial roots in music.

The singer/songwriter said his memoir was in the works for many years; he was first asked to write one at 24 years old, but didn’t feel he was ready at the time.

Costello, whose real name is Declan MacManus, detailed how his father, Ross McManus was a singer with a dance band in his youth.

Colbert then showed a clip of Costello’s father singing and dancing. The biggest takeaway from the video was Costello’s nearly identical appearance with his father—similar facial expressions and the same the black-framed glasses.

“I don’t need a book to tell me where you got your look, Elvis Costello,” Colbert said. “Did you know you were stealing your dad’s look?”

“It’s not so much the look,” Costello said. “It’s the dance moves.”
