Elvis attended a show involving his Il Sogno collaborator Michael Tilson Thomas during the week -

March 31, 2012

I went to see the San Francisco Symphony at Carnegie Hall on Wednesday, and I saw Elvis Costello milling around in the cafe. He was wearing a very colorful scarf and a fedora, and when our eyes met I made that face you make when you see a famous person you really like. He totally saw that I knew who he was. He strutted slowly by my table while I tried to find a way to tell my companion that the guy to our right was Elvis Costello. Elvis, come on. I’m not going to come up to you and ask for a picture! I’m here to see the symphony, okay?

As I noted earlier in this thread -

http://www.elviscostellofans.com/phpBB3 ... sh#p131264

It's ( a photo) of Elvis with the group Lush.
Taken in the summer of 1996 , it was to promote Lush's version of All This Useless Beauty, which featured on the Distorted Angel cd single. For all the joy that seems to be in the photo. - taken in Dublin on the quay beside O'Connell bridge - it was , sadly , one of the last photos of the group. Drummer Chris Acland , second from right , would hang himself in Oct. '96 and Lush disbanded shortly afterwards.

Another photo has turned -

Light, bouncy, pleasant enough version of WTD. It's, of course, totally at odds with the paranoia of the songs lyric making you wonder if the 'Girls even tried to figure out what they mean.

Famed rock photographers raise funds for 'Foundation Rwanda'
Jim Bessman

Elvis Costello fans would immediately have seen the resemblance of the pensive portrait Chalkie Davies was standing alongside to the cover of Costello's 1983's Punch The Clock album.

"In 1982, I was offered the chance to use the giant 20 x 24 Polaroid camera, which had been installed for a week at the British Museum," Davies wrote in the silent auction catalog for the second annual Foundation Rwanda: An Evening of Food & Fotos event, which took place last night at Bonhams auction house.

"I immediately contacted my friend Elvis Costello and asked him to sit for me. I knew that he had the charisma and concentration required to project his personality onto such a large format camera."

Sure enough, after Davies shot several "normal" portraits, Costello looked away from the camera for a moment, and Davies, the renowned New York-based British new wave rock photographer who went on to become a high-end commercial photographer, clicked the shutter for the final frame. The resulting image, he noted, "shows a much more sensitive side of [Costello] than was normal at the time."

"I would give all the books up in a heartbeat for five minutes onstage with Elvis Costello or Bruce Springsteen."

That is unequivocally my favorite photo of Declan. It certainly validates the power of 'black and white' for my eyes. That strong element of chiaroscuro in the photo holds my attention. It goes so well with the cover shot from that time off of "Punch the Clock". Had I the money to own a print I would gladly part with it for that picture. It would compliment a poster I cherish. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

And with that in mind our boy makes it onto this list of the most stylish of musicians in the past 50 years as posted in Esquire: at least for 'coke bottle' lenses- a fashion sense I favor.

Elvis is referenced a few times in the latest issue of The Word (May '12). 'The Test Of Time' (p.14-17) re-assesses supposed classic albums from 1967 to 2000. For 1986 Christopher Bray thinks Blood and Chocolate was overrated , with Andy Gill thinking Stan Ridgway's The Big Heat was underrated. For 1998 Placebo's Without You I'm Nothing was overrated and Painted From Memory is , according to Bray, underrated . Neil Hannon (p 46-47), talking about lyric writing, ' loved Oliver's Army from an early age , and I'm not sure I ever knew what Elvis Costello was on about; I just loved hearing words that weren't usually in a pop song, and that amount of them.'. Finally , a review by David Quantick( p.95) of Here Comes Everybody:The Story of The Pogues by ( Pogue member) James Fearnley notes 'There's special, and fairly critical, mention for Elvis Costello (only eats fruits that rhyme with his name) and his stormy relationship with Pogues bassist Cait O'Riordain'.

White Denim’s James Petralli
found this old Tascam portastudio in his garage over the weekend, so naturally he took to Facebook to field some requests for covers. Classics from Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, the White Stripes, and a few others made the cut, with some help coming from WD guitarist Austin Jenkins on a couple tracks. Check James’ take on Elvis Costello’s “Alison” below, and download the whole bunch here.

I enjoyed the fact that it is the performance from the recent Spectacle.

I don't know if this has been commented on here before, but this comparison photo from cheezburger.com suggests I'm not the only person to get a little deja vu when I see the promos for "Person of Interest." Intentional?

And a fine venue it is. It's owned by David "Tufty" Clough, who was (still is, I guess) a member of the punk group Zero Boys.

Antoine de Caune's appearance with Elvis on stage in Paris on Tuesday led me to seek him out on YouTube.

In this extract (part 2 of 3) from a documentary on The Pogues, Antoine interviews EC about producing the Pogues' first album - Rum, Sodomy and the Lash. ELvis turns up about 4 mins 40 seconds in. The interview with Antoine is at about 5:30secs.

According to its website, the magazine The Merseysider includes an article "on Elvis Costello’s Merseyside roots."
