Fantasy Elvis musical

Post by Neil. »

If the trend of adapting artists' back catalogues into musicals were to extend to Elvis (doubt it though as he hasn't had enough popular hits to pull in the punters in the same way as Queen or Abba), what songs would be used? Songs that would make sense in a story without altering the lyrics, I mean.

I think it's probably set in the 80s in a shipbuilding town with high unemployment - the opening introductory song would be 'Town Where Time Stood Still", with the main character introducing his environment.

I reckon the male lead would worry about whether his girlfriend Alison was cheating on him. He wouldn't want to broach the subject until he was sure - his torn emotions would have him singing "Still Too Soon To Know".

Then he'd find out really was cheating, and, sneering at her new lover, I Hope You're Happy Now would kick in.

Maybe the wife of the person Alison is cheating with also fears her husband's infidelity - voicing it in The Long Honeymoon.

When the faithless lovers realise they don't mean anything to each other, Alison feels ashamed and goes back to her old haunts. Her original boyfriend finds her in a boozy, oompa-pa kinda scene, singing "The Stamping Ground", swinging pints of beer as though in a bierkeller.

Oh god - I'm running out of ideas now, but obviously someone would have to have their son go off to fight in the Falklands, and Shipbuilding would be snuck in there.

Which upbeat numbers do you reckon would fit this extremely loose sketch?

A scenario involving How To Be Dumb and Kinder Murder would get my attendance.

The House Is Empty Now has gotta be the tearjerking showstopper, but, yeah, Mighty Like a Rose, the musical has to have legs.

I don't have a storyline, but 'I Want You' would be a dramatic piece. Otis' idea of 'This House.....' would fit into the story.

maybe, it could sort of be based off the story of Alison. it would be about a long lost girlfriend, that a man runs into recently, and falls in love with her again, but finds out she's still a completely different person, and is now married with a family.
song list could go like this:

Alison could ofcourse be the scene where he meets her again.

I Want You could be used when he's thinking about her and her husband.

I Wanna Be Loved when he becomes lovesick from her.

Accidents Will Happen when he begins to have an affair with her and she regrets it.

High Fedelity could be used in a scene aswell.

Miracle Man when he's trying to prove himself better than her husband.

Clubland can play when they go to a club for one of their dates.

thats all i can think of at the moment. i'll add on later.
