Diana Krall, Elvis Costello Welcome Twins

FRIDAY DECEMBER 08, 2006 05:15PM EST

Singers Diana Krall and Elvis Costello welcomed twins on Dec. 6, PEOPLE has learned.

Boys Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James were born in New York City, according to a rep for the couple, who adds, "Mother and sons are doing splendidly."

Krall and Costello said in a statement, "We are ecstatic!"

The babies are something of a third-anniversary gift for Krall, 42, and Costello, 52, who wed in London on Dec. 5, 2003.

In September, Krall told PEOPLE she's genetically disposed to a double delivery: "I have twins on my mother's side as well."

And she knew even then that she wouldn't dress her kids up in matching outfits: "Nah," she said with a laugh, "I won't be doing that."

This is great. I wonder who the godparents are? Maybe Tony Bennett and Elton John!

Wow, that's quite a week for the new mom and dad. Babies, anniversary, and a couple Grammy nods for both to top it off!

Methinks track 4 would make for appropriate backround listening for the day then -

Was DHL named in homage to the courier company? Love the name Lorcan, as in actor Lorcan Cranitch. Sounds like an adjective meaning 'having the qualities of Lorca'. Hopefully this won't lead to being taken out and shot by fascists at the age of 38.

Congrats indeed! Elv only makes boys, like me!

'Lorcan'

Interesting choice...........inspired by this ,maybe?

St Laurence O'Toole, Patron Saint of Dublin.

(LORCAN UA TUATHAIL; also spelled Laurence O'Toole)

Confessor, born about 1128, in the present County Kildare; died 14 November, 1180, at Eu in Normandy; canonized in 1225 by Honorius III.

Didn't know Lorcan was equivalent to Laurence, as in Lorcan O' Arabiath starring Piathair Ua Tualiath.

I'd venture to guess they're not taking daddy's stage name...

I admire people who find a haircut that's right for them and stick with it. Good going men.

Breaking news from Hello! magazine :

1. "I got a call from Elvis yesterday and they're over the moon, they're so, so happy," said the loved-up pair's manager Sam Feldman. "We've already got the children signed," he joked.

2. Though the twins may well inherit their parents' impressive vocal talents, one thing they won’t be sharing is a wardrobe. Before giving birth Diana promised not to dress her twins in the same outfits. "No, I won't be doing that!" she said.
