Listening to Cream's Disraeli Gears I was suddenly struck by a similarity between World of Pain and London's Brilliant Parade.

Not just the opening words "Outside my window ..." but the general 'feel'.

Have I been on the wrong kind of drugs, or do any other old hippies hear it the same?

God's Comic played prominently at the start of an episode of Crossing Jordan because someone had died on it (I wasn't watching it though, it was on after something else that I was).

I saw that one! I never watch the show, so I didn't know if they usually played God's Comic when they found a dead person or if that was just gratuitous irony.

It looked like it was pretty effectively used - aerial shot zooming in over the body with "now I'm dead, now I'm dead..." and I also remember "I wish you'd known me when I was alive, I was a funny feller", but I'm not sure how much relevance if any they were attempting to convey as to the story as I didn't watch on much (can't watch tv shows like that where they can't even act, you know the type).

So there I was in the East Wing of Verbal Towers yesterday morning about 11.10am reading Mrs VG's Grazia magazine whilst she was doing the ironing and watching a Magic (music channel on UK cable) programme called Chick Flick Favourites (honest) when Elvis video for She came on!

I haven't heard the song for about 5 years and then I see him perform it in Amsterdam and see the (rubbish) video on TV in the matter of a few days.

Lipstick Vogue escaping from the headphones of a teenage girl sitting next to me on the tube between Paddington and Embankment yesterday. It kind of made my shitty day that little more shiny.

Surely you were listening to Under The Iron Sea (and wearing Mrs VG's curlers at the time).

Never seen the vid for She. You've got one of most/nearly all of us if you've seen She live, no? Was it great? I guess this is detailed elsewhere.

They also played the video for one of the Keane songs that sound the same.

"She" was fabulous with the orchestra. At least this time we didn't have Elvis looking at Steve and rolling his eyes as he did the last tour he played it live.

ps I do the housework dressed like Freddie Mercury in the I Want To Break Free video. Including the moustache.

Good job you don't liken yourself to Roger Taylor or I might have to start fancying you.

During the baseball playoffs the other night, a guy by the name of Oliver Perez was pitching for the New York Mets. A crowd shot (on national TV)showed a guy holding up a sign proclaiming he was part of "Oliver's Army".

Wonder what % of the audience got the reference?

Was listening to John Wing's radio show on CBC yesterday. He finished with a song called I'll Never be Elvis, in which he bemoans the fact that he'll never have women throw panties at him, nor drive a fancy car, nor play for the Leafs, etc. The tune ends with these lines:

I am who I am, I try to be a good fellow
But I'll never be Elvis, not even Costello

I found a copy of the Big Wheel while browsing through the bargain sections at Waterstones. That's about it.

I was flipping channels in a hotel room in Tampa, Florida. I came across some B movie or series show on cable (USA network I think). An all-girl band was playing in a bar. They were singing something I had never heard of..then when I came back by the channel a couple of minutes later...they were playing "Mystery Dance" with great enthusiasm...pretty good version of it actually

The sleeve of the CD soundtrack has all the gory details -

Another part of the CD package lists Steve Cropper as being producer of Mystery Dance. The same Cropper as in Booker T etc. , I wonder?

It's a fun version.

Tesco's white seedless grapes always have 'PLU' + a number on the bag. Does that count?

I think any Paul McCartney-related basswork finds its way to my ears...no matter what static is between my ears and the mccartney-related basswork.

Crowded restaraunt the other day with lots of talking and loud goings on....and suddenly, I knew Veronica was playing. I couldn't hear it, but I knew it was there. I squeezed my eyes shut and concentrated hard, and when there was a slight lull in the socializingl, there it was, on the empress of India...

Working at Pizza Hut when Every Day I Write the Book came on.

Seeing as I'm still just a kid, I got made fun of for listening to "old people" music. Whatever :P
