Elvis on compilations

Post by johnfoyle »

Browsing through the compilation racks I see Elvis is quietly licensing his tracks all over the place . Yesterday I spotted - an odd selection - New Amsterdam on

Good Vibes

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 46-1398807

and , more likely , Good Year For The Roses on

The Very Best Of Country Gold

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 46-1398807

These are recent releases. Another I saw was in a `cut out ` bin and featured a very rare licensing of a track from For The Stars ,

Green Song by Anne Sofie Von Otter and Elvis Costello.

From 2001 it`s on the soundtrack to Very Annie Mary , a U.K. movie ( which I remember getting trailered very heavily and then not getting to Irish cinemas `cos it bombed in the U.K.) .

God, he must rake in something chronic from those compilations...

Olivers Army is always on CDs like SchoolDisco.com ( ) and Alison was recently on a CD called The Quiet Storm (this isnt a joke) with stuff like Parisian Walkways and FreeBird.

Good luck to him though, money for nothing..

"Complicated Shadows" and "High Fidelity" are on the Sopranos soundtrack :)

I hope he "rakes it in" whatever way he can.
Sales from his latest long player are not going to make him a rich man.
I wonder if he makes much from concerts as he probably does more of these than most?

Indeed. The publishing on Alison alone probably takes care of most of his bills. He earned more from Linda Ronstadt's version than from his first few albums.

Doing some e-bay searching once and came across Elvis' version of "I'm Your Toy" on a British compilation called "All-Time Greatest Country Tearjerkers" or something like that.....

I think the songs he co-wrote with Diana will earn him a lot of money, since The Girl In The Other Room is problably gonna sell more than a million.

Also his 'Best Of ...' - albums earn him money: the tracks have been recorded a long time ago, marketingcosts and advertisingcosts are mostly low, EC has the rights to a lot of his recordings, these albums sell a certain quantity each year,...

So, he works hard for it and is problably doing (very) fine.
Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.

I hope you all bought the Bridge School Concerts CD where Neil Young backs Elvis on a beautiful version of Alison. And there's lots of other great performances too. And hey, it's for charity.

Its that time of the year when I pack out the boxes of chocolates in my shop that didn't sell at Christmas, add those heart-shaped Ferrero Rocher boxes and wait for all the saddos who reckon that some confectionary will make their partners forget how ugly they are - yes , good old Valentines is almost here again!!

Elvis also gets in on the game and She has popped up on one of those compilations that are piled up at the entrances to the CD stores.

I remember seeing "Alison" on a series of "Album tracks from Great albums" which was a 3-CD box set. A strange choice (wasn't Alison released as a single) but I don't think Costello's complaining!

I remember Paul Weller never used to want Jam and Style Council tracks put on compilations until Mick Talbot said they were a good way to reach people who would not necessarily normally listen to your music.

Alison has made Elvis a lot of money over the years I dare say.

Elvis hasn't popped up on many compilations lately ; either he's saying no or he just isn't being asked.

Oliver's Army is keeping pretty good company on this one, with the compiler being witty enough to include a bit of 'sub Costello' in the form of The Jags.

This features Really Mystified by Elvis. It's a recent edition of a 1984 release. This version of 'Mystified was , of course, included in the re-issues of Imperial Bedroom.
