What are you listening to?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

The hum of my computer.

Am about to go and wash up and play the second Lloyd Cole solo LP, Don't Get Weird On Me Babe. I haven't played it for about 10 years. It bored me at the time, but Doofer (no sign of him of late at no. 1, I think he got scared off, come back Jackson Doofer, we have things to discuss!) got me interested again. I've been playing the first solo LP to death. For some reason I had completely forgotten about at least 5 classic songs on it. I do think Lloyd's far too obscure for a man of his talents, even if it's years since he was anywhere near a chart or a bigseller.

Hey...I'm back and I'm hotter than ever (seem to have turned into Shaft for some reason)..

Otis - buy Lloyd's equivalent of 10 bloody../Taking Liberties - called Etc.

It is great. You'll love it.

I suspect I will. right now I'm for anything by Lloyd. I only have everything on tape, cos that's what I was buying back then, so time to get some shinies. Do you know Sweetness, b-side of Rattlesnakes? Got to be one of the best singles ever in terms of a + b. I heard there's a reissue of the Rattlesnakes LP out with 4 extra tracks, including something about Andy Warhol, which is what was played (by Stuart Maconie), and he mentioned that sweetness was on it. Is it on Etc.? I have to get it soon!

Will report back once I've given DGWOMB a few plays. Should we meet up on the Lloyd Cole board?

Dang, unlike the old site, if you click a link from your email to a thread and reply, it doesn't make you register first, hence the Guest bollocks.

A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. Do you think when Jesus comes back he ever wants to see a fuckin' cross? It's kind of like going up to Jackie Onassis with a rifle pendant on.

Junior Senior "D-D-Don't Stop the beat" is brilliant. The most fun I've heard all year. Plus the new Eeels record "shooenanny!" which I like a lot and The Dandy Warhols "welcome to the monkey house" which has its moments.

I'm sure Otis will be glad to hear that the 30th anniversary edition of "Aladdin Sane" arrived in my letterbox this morning, so I started to listento it driving into work this evening. I think it was the only 1970's Bowie album I didn't have yet (excluding the live ones). The rpackaging is lovely,

I have ordered Morrissey's "Under the Influence" compilation and Radiohead and Steely Dan have new albums out on Friday in Dublin and next week elsewhere.

Dr J: damn, I bought AS on CD only a couple of years ago, not having had it in the house since I was a teenager - I sold it to someone for some unfathomable reason, and just kept the inner sleeve with the lyrics on - so can't justify getting that beauty. So I am very, very jealous. I played it so much in my youth that, along with Ziggy and Hunky, I know every note and word backwards. I must get the Ziggy reissue, still only have it on vinyl. You are a voracious consumer, are you not? Who's Junior Senior? Looking forward to getting Hail To The Thief - well-timed release for father's day! The new SD one sounds a bit predictable from the Q review, which probably means it's brilliant.

K of C: Ellington/Mingus/Roach: Money Jungle sounds great. What a line-up. Never heard it, butwould like to check it out. What year's it from?

he sounded and looked better than ever.
The Mingus orchestra was amazing.)

I'm at work right now, so that means I'm listening to the corporate radio. Any speakers on our pc's or headphones are prohibited in here... thankfully they haven´t played any Phil Collins today, so it's been a great productive  morning. The worst thing about this is that there are speakers even in the restrooms, so when Sussudio comes up, you just can´t escape unless you leave the building...
At home: The hissing of summer lawns. I've been listening to Joni Mitchell when I get up in the morning for more than two weeks.

EDIT: just right after I posted this, Mr. Collins and company showed up... Follow you, Follow me... I feel like having an espresso downstairs...

Just went out and bought
1. Eels - Shootenanny! Sounds really good on first listen. Thanks DrJ. Go buy it everyone.
2. The White Stripes - Elephant. I like it but need to play it a bit more.
3. Coldplay - A Rush OF Blood To The Head. I've been avoiding buying this but got tempted today, I know a lot of you don't care too much for them, but I really liked Parachutes. Haven't played it yet, if you're interested I'll let you know what I think later.

ih - I sympathise with you, one of the good things about being out of work is that I get to play what I want all day! I've always hated Follow You Follow Me, but does anyone know what the word is after he sings the song title? It always sounds like "Follow you, follow me greenish.

oh, I could go on all day about the songs I get to hear at work, but I have to admit it's kind of fun when Debbie Gibson shows up, as it is right now. Can't remember the name of the song tho.

I've been nearly obsessed with Dr. John for the past few weeks--that is one sexy old fat White man... My work mix today consists of Dr. John, James Taylor, Tom Waits, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and The Meters (a kick ass New Orleans brass band). Nothing like a mix of music that has absolutely no business being put together...

Just at this moment-- Moby's 18. Cause I'm having a little nostalgia party in my head for last summer.

Before that it was Dionne Warwick singing Bart Bacharach, and before that, Patsy Cline.

So sue me, I'm feeling sentimental...!

As I am writing this I have Eva Cassidy's 'Songbird' on the 'ole player.

The last CD I bought, which I must thank this group for pointing me toward, was a Muddy Waters' anthology.
