Howard Stern appeared Colbert yesterday. The band played Radio Radio for his entrance which led to Stern and Colbert dancing together

Hard to know if it’s romantic or creepy, or just both, like the song.

Opening line from "The Beat" ("We're all going on a Summer holiday") leads off this newspaper article about the importance of taking vacation time off!

Nice idea but more likely it's referring to the Cliff Richard song which is part of the British psyche, and also where Elvis took the first line of the song from...

Ha! Yes, that would explain it! Listening to that song for 40 years, and had no idea the opening line was lifted from a 1963 Cliff Richard song (and movie). Still learning those British references after all this time. Still have no idea who "Betty Felon" is for example.

Another one that springs to mind is the almost identical lines of Possession and From me to you by The Beatles

The Beatles
If there’s anything that you want
If there’s anything I can do

Elvis
If there’s anything that you want
If there’s anything that you need

You just reminded me of a lyric in a Hank Williams song that reminds me of a line in "Crimes of Paris"

EC’s “Crimes of Paris”

And I find it hard to swallow good advice
Like going down three times to only come up twice
Come up twice

The Hank Williams Song “Long Gone Lonesome Blues”

And when I find me that river, Lord I'm gonna pay the price,
Oh Lord! I'm goin' down in it three times, but Lord I'm only comin’ up twice.
She's long gone, and now I'm lonesome blue.

I thought I had my share of Elvis for the day last saturday after meeting several lovely EC fans. Back in the hotel around 10:30 I turn on the TV and after 5 min Pump it up is played during the Ford eco comercial.

And of course, 1980's High Fidelity begins with . . . "Some things you never get used to" from Diana Ross and the Supremes just 11 years earlier.

I put this in the Relatively Insignificant thread.

I should have put it here as well.

Elvis certainly shows up in unexpected places. I was watching the second episode of a new TV show from Thailand (available on YouTube), called “3 Will Be Fee”. A character goes into the bathroom, and there is the cover of King of America on an album-sized tile hanging on the wall - very cool!

I was at live touring show of 'Mystery Science Theater 3000' and i saw a gentleman in an EC t-shirt. The show was hilarious and sold out. I recommend people see it. They were goofing on an old Jean Claude Van Damme movie.

On Today's posted TryGuys, "TryPod" podcast on YouTube; Zach was wearing a "The Other Side of Summer" T-shirt. I always loved the single cover, I didn't realize Elvis had t-shirts made. I presume for the 1991 tour with the Rude Five.

This online interview in which Joachim Scholl talks with Scottish writer, academic and stand-up comedian, A.L. Kennedy, appeared on the website of German national radio - Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

The relevant passage is right at the end and reads:

Joachim Scholl: "Hatten Sie vielleicht auch irgend so eine Melodie im Kopf, A.L. Kennedy?"

Kennedy: "Vielleicht – aber ich glaube, Elvis Costello. Ich liebe Elvis Costello. Ein bisschen dunkel, aber süß. Ja."

Or in English:

Joachim Scholl: Maybe you had a tune in your head, A.L. Kennedy?

Kennedy: Maybe - but I think Elvis Costello. I love Elvis Costello. A bit dark, but cute. Yes."

According to Amazon, A.L. Kennedy has twice been selected as one of Granta's Best of Young British Novelists and has won a host of other awards, including the Costa Book of the Year for her novel Day. She lives in London and is a part-time lecturer in creative writing at the University of Warwick.

I was just preparing the evening meal and topped and tailed some carrots when Mrs. Sulky came in and picked up the ends and sang "Thank you for the carrots, I threw them at the chicken " - she'd taken them for our rescue bantam and spontaneously come out with a line from The Juliet Letters which I doubt she's heard since 2008 - no wonder I love her to bits !!
PS don't worry Briana and Kitten I think your position as backing singers is pretty safe!

Mrs Sheep was watching this film yesterday. It is now on netflix. The main couple in the film are just getting to know each other when she says something about renting the flat and the records in it. I went to the kitchen at this part. When i returned They were playing I want you and start to dance to it. And then discuss what the song is about. A vinyl copy of Blood and Chocolate is resting against the wall.

In the West Wing series 6 episode 16, the Presidential candidate Matt Santos sings Alison at various times between 2 and 3 minutes.

‘The Chair’ stars Sandra Oh. I don’t know if Sandra had any say in picking King Of America to end the show, but there is a YouTube video out there with Sandra dancing up on stage while Elvis plays during his Spinning Wheel concert.

Edit: She is an Executive Producer of the show.
