Sadly, Tramps would permanently close its doors in 1999. For one of the venue’s final shows, Bob Dylan stopped by for a rare club appearance. The performance captures Dylan at his best in the kind of intimate, downtown setting where he got his start. Even better, Dylan ends the show by bringing Elvis Costello onstage. Check out their duet of “I Shall Be Released” below.

EC and Burt were true pioneers.

Apparently Sparks and Morrisey have adopted that way of working as well.

"Ron Mael: “I would really hope that could happen. A few years ago there was more of a movement towards that happening and we tried writing a few songs. Sometimes it’s hard getting a response from him. You don’t get a fax message back (laughs) or anything, which is how he usually communicates."

On yesterday's BBC2 panel quiz, Richard Osman's House of Games, the final round is Answer Smash where the answer is a mash up of the name in the object/person in photo and answer to question on screen.

The Photo was of Elvis and the question was "Which fictional hero had a sidekick called Tonto and horse caller Silver?"

Answer: Elvis Costellone Ranger :D

I found this:

http://equipboard.com/pros/johnny-marr/ ... o-acoustic

Danny Ferrington "Elvis Costello" Acoustic

At 0:39 in this performance of William it Was Really Nothing on Top Of The Pops on August 30 in 1984, Johnny Marr can be seen playing this guitar.

Custom guitar made by luthier Danny Ferrington for Elvis Costello, used on August 30th 1984 in a performance of "William, It Was Really Nothing" on Top Of The Pops. This guitar was apparently loaned to Johnny by Elvis for this performance. It was also used by Aztec Camera on another episode of TOTP, after which Roddy Frame had Ferrington make two guitars for him inspired by this Costello acoustic.

Isn't there an obscure track that I don't own connected with a Ferrington guitar giveaway by Elvis ? Looking on the wiki it's called May 27th - has anyone heard it ?

It's "May 17th" (which was Elvis and Cait's anniversary). It's a short instrumental.

I cant remember if it was The Smiths or one of Johnny's earlier bands that did a session using the Attractions equipment for Nick Lowe.

Maximum Drama: Lee Ranaldo's 13 Favourite Albums

Nick Hutchings , November 8th, 2017

From the peak of CBGB new wave to the group he calls 'the defining band of the 90s', former Sonic Youth man Lee Ranaldo takes Nick Hutchings through the thirteen albums that shaped his life

No. 12

Elvis Costello - This Year's Model

I chose the second Elvis Costello record because it had the whole band and I saw those guys so many times in that period. The band was so excellent and the songwriting and the lyrics were so excellent, Elvis Costello was a singular talent in that period.

Both Elvis and David Byrne were coming across with these songs that were so amazing – they were nodding backwards towards classic pop and yet they were doing new and innovative things with it, and the lyrics were so inspiring.

They were both such inspiring lyric writers. In different ways both writing about alienation in modern society: Elvis is this vitriolic way and David Byrne in this meek Clark Kent kind of thing, but they were both railing against what society was becoming and what it was trying to make of its citizens and they were both of their ways very punk.

I note that the Australian film actor, Russell Crowe, is sitting in for Jarvis Cocker to present the "Sunday Service" on BBC radio 6 Music, this coming Sunday November 12, 2017.

What chance he will play some Elvis or the BibleCode Sundays? Here are Russell and Elvis on stage down under from 2006.

So Russell Crowe did indeed play some Elvis - "Alison" and also "Message To You Rudy" by The Specials, from their EC-produced first LP. He tells the story of when Elvis turned up in the Potter's Wheel Hotel in Auckland where he (Russell) was DJ'ing and also about his appearance at EC's May 2012 show at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The Auckland story would either have been in 1982 or 1984. Playlist and "listen again" button are here:
