London meet up Saturday 23rd July

Post by verbal gymnastics »

Yes it's that time again.

Following January's excellent meet up we're holding another meet up in London on Saturday 23rd July.

At this stage we just want your love and commitment as we haven't gone into silly things like where we're meeting and at what time.

We will no doubt discuss Detour and the Imposters shows (if we struggle for conversation topics) but the main items on the agenda will be Euro 2016, the EU referendum result and how I manage to retain my youthful good looks (and how/why Mrs VG puts up with me).

The cast list so far is

MOOT
Sheeptotheslaughter
Johnfoyle
Andy the Roofdog
Mr Getgood
Neil.
Goon Squad
VG

with confirmation pending from sulky lad and little fool.

John will no doubt summon some of his harem again too!

Would anyone else care to join us?

Venue suggestions welcome!

If we're looking for something more central this time then ignore this, but given that (a) last time it was said that Liverpool St station was convenient for a lot of people, and (b) it will be late July and a beer garden might be desirable, then the Water Poet just off Bishopsgate comes to mind.

A beer garden is a very good idea.

Unfortunately I couldn't book an outside area at the Water Poet, already fully booked for weekends all summer

Not sure what to suggest. The Old George in Bethnal Green has a decent-sized beer garden. One stop away from Liverpool St on the Central line. Worth me making an enquiry? Even less central than the WP though.

That's a real shame but it's more important that we meet up at the Roundhouse and Colston Hall. :D

This sad news means there will be a vacancy for a lucky person to look after me later on in the evening once the 10th pint has kicked in

So I've booked an area at the Water Poet in the Back Bar (see map at http://www.waterpoet.co.uk/reservations/) from 2pm. Not outside, unfortunately, but it is right next to the garden area so maybe we can annex an outside area if we get there early enough.

This is TOMORROW. Back bar of the Water Poet, about 5 minutes from Liverpool St station, or Shoreditch High St station in the other direction if you're of an alternative persuasion. I can't stay too late so will be there early doors.

Thanks johnfoyle, Mr and Mrs Sheeptotheslaughter, Neil., Andy the Roofdog, Mr Getgood and Ian Sephton for a great afternoon. It was far cooler sitting inside than in the Tardis like garden.

A reasonable finishing time meant I got to my local pub in time for a few more pints outside.

The idea was floated about having a meet up to watch Mr Getgood's band. The practicalities might make it difficult but I'm always up for a challenge!

Yes, it was great to catch up and share all the news, on and off stage, from the recent shows. As with previous get-togethers I looked at the clock and just couldn't believe we'd been talking for four hours .
