playing “Alison” a capella out in the crowd.

I asked which song used the Muhammed Ali images -
No, they popped up in the “in memoriam” spot, after the lights went up once the show was over. But he did mention his dad's ska song “I'm The Greatest” during the “Ghost Train” intro.

Review (in Spanish) by CMD which appeared in the Mexican daily newspaper "Excelsior" on June 5th, 2016.

"Elvis Costello ofrece concierto intimista y nostálgico

The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes".

Good Year For The Roses".

Elvis Costello offers intimate and nostalgic concert

British musician of 61 years is presented in Spain, with his tour 'Detour' at the Mozart Hall Auditorium of Zaragoza

ZARAGOZA, Spain.

Zaragoza has been the first stop in Spain of "Detour" tour of Elvis Costello, in which the London shows an intimate show in which music and memory merge to remember anecdotes and personal experiences that narrates, this time in solo recital.

With a loud "Hello!" Costello broke with British punctuality in the Mozart Hall Auditorium of Zaragoza, to the applause of a devoted audience that enthusiastically received the first notes of "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes".

"Detour" has led this year to Elvis Costello (London, 1954) to more than twenty stages in the United States, England and Italy to finally anchor in Spain with two more events in addition to the Mozart Hall of the Auditorio de Zaragoza: Madrid Saint Sebastian.

ELVIS AIR

On stage, a large panel that read "On Air" recalled the direct and rigorous in the background images on a screen shaped roamed TV moments of his childhood and youth.

Meanwhile, the London narrating anecdotes of his vision of the "femme fatale" to introduce his song "Underground Church" or concerts with The Attractions, before singing "Accidents Will Happen".

After the first songs, he changed his acoustic guitar for the piano, while replacing the dark sunglasses he wore at first -and that made him somewhat unrecognizable by his enormous black-rimmed glasses.

Model that sported on the cover of their first album, "My Aim Is True", with which the late seventies this singer-songwriter began to open a gap in the international music scene as a boy band, with The Attractions and the Imposters-, collaborations, with country singer George Jones trumpeter Chet Baker or or alone.

In the piano, who promised to return "without harm" his wife -the jazz pianist and singer Diana Krall-, Costello played the song voice torn plagued wish "Shipbuilding", the theme of the musical "A Face In The Crowd "or" Good Year For The Roses ".

Standing, or sitting at the piano and interspersing the eight guitars accompanied him on stage, the musician moved from the energetic performance of songs like "Ghost Train" romanticism of "Walkin 'My Baby Back Home".

Meanwhile, they could not miss the women; leaving the caramel flavor and "So Like Candy" or as the star of "Everyday I Write The Book" love story chapters Costello took the opportunity to unleash the versatility of her voice.

And then, without warning, she arrived: "She" Original-song of Charles Aznavour and soundtrack of "Notting Hill" in the version of Costello that brought out dose of excitement and applause equally.

With the audience in his pocket and harnessing the power of her voice without a microphone and the excellent acoustics of the room, the musician plunged among the attendees surprised seats to give them a topic of their first album, "Alison."

WITHOUT WASTING BREATH

Pointing to London, the light of a focus tracking cameras and dozens of phones of those who did not want to miss the chance to portray the moment.

And to appease the agitation aroused by the gesture, which made up much of the nearly 750 attendees, Costello played a lovely "Almost Blue" after which gave way to the electric "Watching The Detectives" that was accompanied by an intriguing sunset scene.

He said goodbye with "I Want You", in which a sore Costello could only say "I love you" because everything else was, sang, "wasting his breath."

A breath that still had at the end, after more than two-hour concert, which ended with a "thank you very much".

Expression that will keep repeating, at least during the two days left in our country with the concert tomorrow in Madrid's Teatro Monumental and Monday at the Kursaal Auditorium in San Sebastian.

After Spain, the UK joins "The Imposters" with those who will visit the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands and will finish the summer on a solo trip to act in the United States and Japan, where in cities like Osaka has already sold all entries. "

I presume this review also appeared somewhere in the Spanish press, as it originated from the Spanish press agency EFE. Interesting that it should appear South of the Border down Mexico way too. Not sure about the description of The Attractions as a "boy band".

Review by Javier Losilla published in El Periódico de Aragón on June 6, 2016:

¿Jekyll y Hyde? No, Abbott y Costello (Elvis)."

MUSIC CRITIC

The great imposture of Abbott and Costello (Elvis)

Discreet but enthusiastic audience attendance splendid concert of emotions that dealer that responds artistically by the name of Elvis Costello. We do not know whether to attribute the shortage of viewers to act without the musician group; that concert was in Mozart, whose acoustics are not very good with pop and rock, or the price of tickets, but frankly, one would expect a somewhat nurtured the first visit to Zaragoza Conjurer veteran answer Costello. The title of his tour and left the intentions clear: Detour; ie diversion, rodeo ... One, in short, way different, to address a splendid repertoire, this time armed with splendid sound presences and absences.

With scenery that denotes his passion for primitive television broadcasts (also by sympathetic mountebanks) and incontestable ways showman, Costello weapon a fascinating show which combines acoustic with electric, and piano with guitars. All it seasoned with an irrepressible verbiage, perhaps too much for an audience that mostly do not have the level of English parliaments require their hilarious. Thus, between stories sometimes crazy in the comments on the old TV shows are mixed, the profession of his father and the royal family, Costello pinpoints songs, tributes (Allen Toussaint and Beatles, for example) and music They are calling at different ports of the popular. Unhurried (the concert began at half past nine and ended twenty minutes before midnight), establishing complicity with the audience, showing his extraordinary ability as a composer and performer. Yes, we would have liked to hear live Costello accompanied by a solvent group, but celebrate their ability to solve alone a handful of pieces twisting melodies or soften them, and, above all, singing them with the energy of a youngster and freedom of a wise.

No need to be transcribed in full the program addressed, but there are some titles from her drawer Wonderland: Red Shoes, Accidents Will Happen, Church Underground, Everyday Write The Book, Ring Of Fire, Freedom For Stallion, Shipbuilding, walking My Body Back Home, Ghost Train, a review of almost noise Watching the Detectives, New Amsterdam, She (his particular look at Tous les visages de l'amour, Aznavour), Almost Blue ... Strolling among the public, as a troubadour to ancient interpreted Alison, and closing the evening addressed a Good Year for the Roses and blues Big Stars Have Tumbled (piano) and a ravishing I Want You, clean guitarrazo, with which he brought the audience up to say goodbye.

"Imagination is a great impostor" says Costello in his memoirs Unfaithful Music and invisible ink. On Saturday he gave a lesson in this imposture that is, ultimately, more disturbing truth. He took two for one, comedy and drama in the infinite box cathode dreams. Jekyll and Hyde? No, Abbott and Costello (Elvis). "
