The Detour Elvis Costello arrives in Italy Monday, will be at the Coliseum theater

May 19, 2016 / in Piedmont, Entertainment, Turin

Arrives in Italy the 'Detour' only show of Elvis Costello: the brilliant British artist, engaged in a world tour, will hold the first of seven Italian concerts in Turin, playing Monday, May 23 at the Teatro Coliseum. The show, enthusiastically received worldwide, is a wonderfully entertaining journey through the incredible life of Elvis Costello. Among the 100 greatest artists of all time according to Rolling Stone, Costello has a long career in the name of transformation, with a unique style of music and a sophisticated songwriting. Between sarcasm and grit, breaks every scheme ranging casually from punk to Deutsche Grammophon, the crooning pop up to the rediscovery of American folk roots. It 'a curious story to Declan Patrick MacManus (his name' true '), man with the look of a Buddy Holly, an acidic anger in his veins, who chose the name of the king of rock and proclaimed himself "imposter" rock 'n'roll.

GABRIELE FERRARIS
TORINO

23 May 2016

Elvis Costello inaugurates the world tour at the Colosseum

The concert of Elvis Costello at the theater Colosseum Monday, May 23, the first Italian date of their world tour, is an event. At least for a certain generation, the one that has happily lived the eighties and today is found to his surprise to be already revival. An event because Elvis Costello, aka Declan Patrick MacManus, in the Eighties was a myth - maybe not massive, but true - and remains to this day, while approaching to 62 years who will be in August, a cult musician. For sure, one of the best things we have arrived from England post-punk.

He began at this time - his first album, "My aim is true" is 1976, the year of "Anarchy in the UK" by the Sex Pistols - and initially punkeggiava a lot, and then transmute into winning new wave scene that he and his faithful band the Attractions dominated with merit and infinite class.
Since then, Elvis Costello has followed a variety of paths that led him to confront the most diverse musical genres from punk to folk American, crooning the old school to the more carefree pop song, to give yourself a foray into the universe of so-called music cultured. Signed enduring songs, songs that everyone, or nearly so, we keep in the ideal playlist of our lives: "Alison" and "Everyday I Write the Book" are mine, each one adds those who prefer.

With a songbook so crowded, and a career so long and adventurous, made of large awards (including the triumphal entry into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame) and a lot of down time, that of Elvis Costello is not a normal concert it is, rather, a sentimental journey in the music that we crossed, told by an artist who has lived in the name of metamorphosis, elegant writing and brilliant on stage, full of irony and consummate performer.

Thus, the arrival of "Detur" the only show that Elvis Costello is bringing around the world, become an event not to be missed: the adventure, fun and addictive, the incredible life of this man with his Fifty Years of rocker face, dazed behind his goggles. absolute ace icon. And true artist.
The concert at the Colosseum, Via Madama Cristina 71, begins at 21. Tickets from 35.20 to 58.70 depending on the order of post

First Italian stage just in Turin for Elvis Costello, where he performed at the Teatro Coliseum. The brilliant British artist, in spite of the almost sixty springs, is engaged with a world tour and will perform seven concerts in our country. Considered by Rolling Stone magazine one of the hundred greatest artists of all time, Costello was a versatile musician capable of changing, however, offering a distinctive musical style and a great refinement in the texts. Equipped with great sympathy and determination, even tonight he wanted to offer them an essay on stage for a show in solitary where his voice and his energy on guitar and melody on the piano have left their mark. Detour The show is a journey through the greatest hits of his career, over two hours of concert, including "Almost Blue", "Accidents Will Happen". "Pump it Up", "Alison", "She", "Watching the Detectives", "Shipbuilding". She surrounded by his guitars, alongside his piano, surrounded by his tools and his music, to want to remember his life, always marked by his music as for his parents. Beautiful memories of his father, (Ross MacManus, also a musician) with the support of a large screen behind him, a vintage TV that projected images and memories.

Of course not, but his italian dates seem far from sold out.

For example, at this link you can buy the tickets for tonight's Milan show, and if you click the "Acquista tramite scelta in pianta" sign, you'll see a map of the still available seats

edit:
Bologna and Brescia, in smaller venues, are almost sold out.

This is a bit niche. Still no sign of a setlist for the show, but someone has bothered to film and then post to YouTube 16 seconds of queuing to get into the show... including not the official merchandise stall selling T-shirts on the pavement outside.

Review (and photo) by Alberto Gallo in the Italian magazine: Il giornale della musica:

LA FAMIGLIA COSTELLO
Elvis Costello

" THE FAMILY COSTELLO
Elvis Costello

Elvis Costello opens in Turin on his solo tour, between song and stand-up comedy

The story of Elvis Costello starts away. Very far. Start before Diana Krall, before Burt Bacharach, Chet Baker, Cait O'Riordan, Paul McCartney, before Steve Nieve and Attractions, before Austin Powers and Robert Wyatt. First, in short, who became Elvis Costello Elvis Costello, when he was a Declan Patrick MacManus all trying to make their way in the music business. His story begins in the early sixties, the day when, accompanying his father, also a musician, during a performance, by a cruel spite found himself having to play with the guitar out of tune completely, preferring then turn off ' amplifier and pretending to play throughout the concert, "a good exercise in view of my entrance into pop music!" But perhaps the story of Elvis begins even further, before even his coming to the world, in the French countryside, during days of the Great War, when Grandpa MacManus, in turn, he too, a musician, was wounded in combat, being years and various vicissitudes after having to beg on the street some money in exchange for his art.

This is the story of Elvis (we can today, after forty years of honorable service, simply call him? He deserved this privilege?), At least as he put it, chatting between songs and the other, in the first six dates of her Italian mini-tour. An evening of the past (his as a man and musician, and, indeed, of his family), but not nostalgia: with light-hearted tone and, at times, frankly hilarious, the Paddington man has carried on for two hours abundant his one man show of song writing and stand-up comedy. Could not list all the songs played (on guitar or piano), but how not to mention at least the legendary "Alison", "Almost Blue" and "Shipbuilding"? The final is no room for the inevitable cover Dylan ( "I Threw It All Away"). A triumph, you really can not ask for more.

Not often you hear Elvis described as "The Paddington Man". It's not something he can bear.
