He's been here before.....

Talking to John at the RFH bash last night about this. I couldn't understand why, outside of 4 dates @ The Palladium, he would want to play just this venue. And then it occurred to me. Rusty's last ever gig. 24th June 1973. An official reunion perhaps????

Perhaps - how great would that be?

I can't believe the lack of posts about the gig. That wouldn't happen nowadays

I opted for a drive up the M40 rather than double the price tickets for the Palladium. Never been to the venue so looking forward to a new tick on the gig map

The Coventry Telegraph seem to have found a press release that , perhaps, fell down behind someone's desk and today do a promo piece for a show that has already sold out.

Elvis Costello announces Coventry show at Warwick Arts Centre

25 FEB 2016
BY JAMES RODGER

Legendary cult singer-songwriter will perform at University of Warwick venue

The cult singer-songwriter takes his acclaimed Detour solo show for another spin in May, with one of five UK dates taking place at Warwick Arts Centre.

Costello is one of our most loved singer-songwriters, and will revisit his back catalogue in this forthcoming tour.

Critics round the globe have waxed lyrical about this incredibly entertaining walkthrough, with a variety of signature hits being aired, from Oliver's Army and Accidents Will Happen, to I Can't Stand Up for Falling Down, and Pump It Up.

As part of this nostalgic and joyous tour, Costello will perform covers by Brinsley Schwarz, Cliff Edwards, Charles Aznavour and Sam and Dave as he takes to the stage at the Coventry venue on Monday, May 9.

After that, he will play four consecutive nights at the London Palladium.

Born and raised in London and Liverpool, Costello is the grandson of a trumpet player on the White Star Line and son of a jazz musician who became a successful radio dance band vocalist.

The musician went into the family business and had taken the popular music world by storm before he was twenty-four.

Tickets for the show are available here.

'As part of this nostalgic and joyous tour, Costello will perform covers by Brinsley Schwarz, Cliff Edwards, Charles Aznavour and Sam and Dave...'

Presumably PLU, Side By Side, She and ICSUFFD. Seems an odd way to bill it, makes it sound as if he will be performing a set mainly composed of covers. :?

 wonder if he is even aware of the wording for this show. NOT that he can't fulfill that aspect by doing the four songs you name in twelve minutes. Interesting nonetheless.

That line seems to have originated in the description of the Detour film:
In this nostalgic and joyous film, recorded at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall, Costello revisits his back catalogue as well as performing covers by Brinsley Schwarz, Cliff Edwards, Charles Aznavour and Sam and Dave.

When I first read the topic I thought it meant that Elvis was playing the actor Warwick Davis in a documentary.

Ah, that makes more sense, I guess that's where they lifted the line from. No, I'm sure EC is not involved in the wording of this - I'd be surprised if he was committing himself to definitely including 'Side By Side' three months ahead of the show!

I have a ticket for this but unfortunately I'll be on an oil rig at the time so unable to go. I'll also miss one of the two gigs I have tickets for at the Palladium but I'll put that on the London thread.

The ticket is a PDF version so if anyone wants it then please pm me before next Wednesday, 27th April. After that I'll be offshore with limited internet access. No charge for the ticket but I'd ask for a donation to my daughters charity challenge.

In fact if anyone feels like donating then please follow the link
