Remenber VG as you make your 'pilgrimage':

"Whan that Aprill with his shourës sootë
The droghte of March hath percëd to the rootë
And bathëd every veyne in swich licour
Of which vertu engendrëd is the flour,
Whan Zephirus eek with his sweetë breeth
Inspirëd hath in every holt and heeth
The tendrë croppës, and the yongë sonnë
Hath in the Ram his half cours y-ronnë,
And smalë fowelës maken melodyë
That slepen al the nyght with open eye,
So priketh hem Nature in hir corages,
Than longen folk to goon on pilgrymages,
And palmeres for to seken straungë strondës,
To fernë halwës kouthe in sondry londës.
And specially, from every shirës endë
Of Engelond, to Caunterbury they wendë,
The holy, blisful martir for to seke
That hem hath holpen whan that they were seekë."

Enjoy the show!

Now how prescient would Geoffrey be were you to be entertained with the 'straunge strondes' of infrequently played past gems? :o In that Cathedral town miracles are known to happen-given the 'blisful martir'.

A reason to post! Me and Mrs Elvisisking will be there in Row E 35 years after my first Elvis experience on a snowy night at the old Canterbury Odeon in December 1978. The Marlowe was built about 3 years on the site of the old Odeon site and attendees can look forward to an intimate night in a great small venue. The interior was modelled on the Basingstoke Anvil. Shame no Richard Hell or John Cooper Clarke this time!

Nothing to be embarrassed about.

Small theatre, last night of the tour - who knows what will happen. Paddy should spin the wheel though. The proposition starts here!

Perhaps like last year the last night will be Saturday night and then Sunday will be postponed. There will then be a rescheduled date for 2014 and a full tour.

It could happen is all I'm saying...

After Edinburgh and Southend I have yielded to temptation and bought a ticket for Canterbury. I have a question, is Elvis ok about signing posters etc after the gig? I have a poster from the miners benefit he played with Billy Bragg, The Men They Couldn't Hang and The South Wales Miners Choir back in March 1985. Billy Bragg signed it many years ago and I have often thought about framing it and hanging on the wall, however, I didn't because I wondered if I would ever have the opportunity to get the man himself to sign the poster. After more than thirty years it's about time it was displayed in a prominent space with the rest of the collection.

It's hard to say. It's a small theatre so I think there's a good chance. But that's a personal view - has anyone been to the Marlowe?

The Marlowe is only couple of years old and was modelled on the Basingstoke Anvil so anyone who went on Thursday will have a similar experience apart from it has a traditional balcony and circle. It's smaller than the Anvil. Should be easy to loiter at the stage door as its all open plan around the outside. Should be a great night -30 years after his last visit to the town. Can't wait!

Plenty of choice as the Marlowe is in the middle of the town. The Dolphin is good with a decent garden if the suns out, CT1 2AA. About 3 mins walk from the theatre.
