Hi UB
Do you know when exactly? One of my wife's friends is a resident of Derry and has asked us over to take in the Capital celebrations, this could be very timely indeed.

[ btw - have you checked your entry in the Trading section recently?]

All the best

The Ebrington venue is , it seems, going to be temporary structure/marquee in a disused army barracks. The capacity is reported as c.4000.

'Its costing €5million euroto erect for the year, the tent has just been used in wembley and the olympics, I was inside it today and it is pretty impressive, I must say, ok so people saying it a waste of money at £13,000 a day to keep there, but think of the local economy when it host varies event throughout 2013 and the money that will generate, it will be far more than €5million .

Has Elvis ever been, er, announced by a Government minister before ?

http://www.northernireland.gov.uk/index ... s-city.htm

Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has described Derry as a “City of Opportunity” in 2013.

~ Thursday, 25 October 2012

(extract)

The Minister was speaking as she revealed one of the City of Culture community projects - BT Portrait of a City. The Minister also announced the date of the 27 of June 2013 for an Elvis Costello concert in the New Pavilion, Ebrington.

With the news that the Imposters are part of the show in the Irish Republic a few days later it seems fair to assume that they will also be part of this show.

StubHub seem to be confident there will be a second date at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham but the Town Hall/Symphony Hall website have no details as yet !

All a bit confusing. The link shows seating plans for the Millenium in Derry but the gig is at the temporary Vital Venue at Ebrington. And there's a VIP package available via Ticketmaster...

I'm going to this, anyone else?

Looking forward to it but it'll have to go some to top three stellar shows in Belfast in the last few weeks - Emmylou Harris/Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle and (best of all) The Who last night.

Anyone any idea if this (first show in Northern Ireland with full band since 1984) will be a wheel show or not? I have a friend coming with me who has never seen him and I don't want to talk it up if it turns out to be a straight show (which would be fine by me). The other Irish dates seem to be more like festivals, so my hunch is they won't bring all the wheel paraphenalia.

According to the official site, it's a non-wheel show.

http://www.elviscostello.com/news/elvis ... -dates/401

Brighton and Canterbury on June 22 and 23 are the only remaining wheel shows which have been announced.

It'll be interesting to see if Elvis starts popping up on various media outlets here to promote the shows in Ireland. None are sold out so a emphasis on a ' walk up ' audience seems the only option. I will be going to the Westport show. I had all kinds of notions of also going to either Derry or Cork. That isn't happening. After the excellence of the Southend show I feel it would be best to focus on seeing and appreciating one festival show - otherwise it really would be just too much of a good thing!

Updated story. The print version incorrectly said this was his first show in Northern Ireland in almost 30 years, seemingly the writer missed the 1989, 1999, 2002 and 2011 shows.
