Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.

While I wallow in the exotica of the Southend show, my brother Martin has decided to go to this show. He doesn't post much here so I will gladly pass on any coverage he Tweets etc.

32EUR not bad at all. Curious venue. 'El Poble Espanyol' is Catalan for 'the Spanish village/people', and it's a small scale recreation of highlights of all regions of Spain, which feels odd this being Catalunya. It has a Plaza Mayor [town square] which is where they put music on. I saw both Miles Davis and Milton Nascimento there in a 1987 festival. Good choice of show for Martin!

Indeed it was, nice bit of the delicious Catalan language there, but it's now closed. Good I'd love to see him in Barcelona. Talking to a colleague from Madrid tonight who's booked for an operation the day Elvis plays there. Was encouraging him to postpone it!

Due to "el bajo ritmo de la venta de entradas" (slow ticket sales), this show has been moved from Poble Espanyol to Sala Razzmatazz, where Elvis and the Imposters played in 2005.
Showtime has also changed from 9:30 to 8:30.

Pattern emerging that he's taken to opening with Turpentine when he knows a Foyle is in the audience.

I was going to post the setlist but first I wanted to have dinner. The Foyles are damned fast...
I don't have the luck to see Elvis & the guys that often so every time I see them I rediscover how fucking good they are.

Diana Krall is also playing tomorrow in Catalonia (Cap Roig, about 100 km north from Barcelona), so he hilariously dedicated Walkin' My Baby Back Home to her.
Sad fact: she will play a sold out show while Elvis had to move to a smaller venue because of slow ticket sales.

Glad to be part of all this. Martin texted the tracks to me, while I was starting a 'Orange Is The New Black ' ( tv show) marathon, I forwarded the info. to the wiki editor in Florida who posted them as he got them and the completed setlist was up within ten minutes of Elvis leaving the stage.
Some comments from Martin -
Stage front, right, ac's kind of on, v. weak web signal, all standing, should be a good crowd, photos later.
Sweat torrenting out of his (Elvis) sleeves.
Perfectly paced, never heard his voice better, band totally in the zone, as tight as the attraction, bizarre seeing EC so happy, great gig

Great to see Elvis again, transformed since I last saw him in 2005. Still supremely entertaining, no more snark. Sure I'd like to have seen more recent stuff, ie. stuff from the last 10 years, the ones done way better than the studio versions. Still it was great to hear the classics again, the Impostors providing such amazing texture. Great evening in a wonderful hot, laid back city.

That music stand stopped me doing more, there were at least 10 pro photographers in the pit, so some good ones shoulld surface

It was funny reading the post on the previous night's show that Elvis' voice sounds poor. The YouTube clips don't seem to demonstrate this. Good to hear Martin corroborate this.

No soprano, just none of the strangulated screaming of the past. Guitar playing way better as well. My earplugs helped, trimmed off the harshness of the wall of sound. Great interplay, a nod or one word to Pete, eg. Alison, and the others followed, really tight.
Re:Razzmatazz, Barcelona (Spain), July 26, 2013
Wow Martin, we were at the same spot (I was a bit more centered than you, second row) so your photos will be a nice souvenir of the show, it's like I took them myself.

Found out a local friend was there to and loved it. Said Razzamatazz is one of her fave venues and the air conditioning was good!
When will Elvis slip Walk Us Uptown into an Imposters' set? Would be a brilliant move and they'd do it beautifully.

I wouldn't expect this until the Songbook tour has finished. It'll be the next Imposters tour at the earliest.Otis Westinghouse wrote: When will Elvis slip Walk Us Uptown into an Imposters' set? Would be a brilliant move and they'd do it beautifully.
