Hardly Strictly 2012
Word on Facebook is that E.C. will be playing this year. I wonder if it's true? If so, AWESOME! - over -
Re: Hardly Strictly 2012
OK, confirmed. Just listened to the artist preview stream on the HSB site. E.C. will be performing. Hot stuff. Good times. See you all there (if you can make it).
Re: Hardly Strictly 2012

Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.
Re: Hardly Strictly 2012
In the Rchard DeLone Foundation speculaton derby, Nick Lowe is playing Sacramento Thursday night October 4, taking him out of the running if the gig is that night. A Coward Brothers gig instead?

Nick Lowe and Jesse Winchester play Great American Music Hall on Friday the 5th. Can Elvis resist a surprise appearance?

Curious that the LoWinchester show is not billed as the Richard Delone Special Housing benefit, leaving open the possibility that the benefit will occur Thursday night.

Preview: Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Day 1

Elvis Costello – 5:45 – Banjo Stage
Yeah he’s played the show once before, but still Elvis Costello has to be the highlight of the festival. A veteran performer with such hits as “Alison” and “Watching the Detectives”, but still relevant enough to command a headlining gig at one of the largest annual festivals in the country, Elvis is certainly a can’t miss. Last time he played HSB he didn’t get into some of his older stuff, but I’m guessing this year, on his own, he’ll delve deeper into his songbook.

Live stream (from an audience member far from the stage, but the audio is decent enough):
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ryleibrich
Edit: It showed "Veronica" and "Shipbuilding" and then cut off abruptly during "Payday." Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

Twice I have watched Elvis Costello leave Hardly Strictly in a golf cart and both times it was the greatest thing I've ever seen.
Re: Hardly Strictly 2012
This is the first of 3 shows in SF. Later Tonight, show #2 is Elvis and Buddy Miller subbing for the ailing Jesse Winchester, sharing the bill with Nick Lowe. Show #3 is tomorrow's deLone show. Unfortunately, show #1 is the only one I'll attend.
I arrived 5 minutes early only to find Elvis into his 2nd song of the set. I wound up extreme stage right by the road, so that it looked through the foliage like a shrub singing with a guitar in his limbs.
Going on the faith of prior postings, the first song was Welcome to my Working Week, followed by
Brilliant Mistake
Last Boat Leaving
New Amsterdam/You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
Everyday I write the Book
Bedlam
Ghost Train
Walking my Baby Back Home
Watching the Detectives
Veronica
Shipbuilding
Payday (a get well card for Jessie Winchester)
Red Shoes
A Slow Drag with Josephine
Jimmie Standing in the Rain/Brother can you Spare a Dime?
PLU
Sulphur to Sugarcane

I just listened to the version Shipbuilding on that ustream channel and noticed something different. Is this a new lyric?:And No Coffee Table wrote:Live stream (from an audience member far from the stage, but the audio is decent enough):

A small bunch of flowers is all that you get
And a box to bury the babies
It's a just a rumour...
Re: Hardly Strictly 2012
No, he's been adding that most of the time since 1984. I think he dropped it for the Songbook shows. I've always thought it was a mistake to add this verse, the song was perfect to begin with.docinwestchester wrote:I just listened to the version Shipbuilding on that ustream channel and noticed something different.
