Me and my lovely missus for two. Really looking forward to it since making the trip to Sligo last year. Been a massive fan since 1979 but probably only seen him about 6 to 8 times down the years.

I didn't think the sound was that bad - and would you really prefer to step outside rather than put up with muddy sound ?? Elvis' guitar was inaudible to begin with but that picked up and at least Davey wasn't drowning him like he did in Newcastle. Despite my promptings, Mrs. Sulky refused to wear the assorted outfits I proposed to guarantee her a wheel spin (nudge nudge, say no more) We got Indoor Fireworks as part of the Kings Ransom along withSuit Of Lights, Stations Of The Cross and a bit of The Temptations song "Get Ready". I was so excited when the Happy jackpot came up for the first time but we only got ICSUFFD and High Fidelity - no 5ive Gears. Elvis voice was tons better than last night - indeed Mrs Sulky thought it was the best that she had heard. Also had Shabby Doll and Human hands from the Imperial Chocolate jackpot with Uncomplicated from B&C. The audience was fab, getting to their feet early on and this inspired Elvis to be more "showman" like. To top it all, I do believe I've made rather a nice recording of this as well. If only I had the time to put them all up on dime !!!

Wasn't it in Pump It Up that there was a brief interlude of Daytripper?

Great show last night, but what was it that Alfred Hitchock said about the length of a film being linked to the capacity of the human bladder? No one can last 3 hours after a few pints! Most impressive was the young man who chose Beyond Belief and sang along to every word in the go go cage! The solo songs were wonderful, and I have changed my opinion of A Slow Drag with Josephine!

This guy was at the show at the Royal Concert Hall on the Saturday night, then chooses to write a review of a Sandy Denny Tribute Act instead....

http://www.davidbelbin.com/2012/05/sand ... -20th-2012

Thankfully the Nottingham Post had detailed someone else to review Elvis' show on Saturday night as follows:

Wheel's on fire with Costello's rage and delicacy

I'VE seen loads of Elvis Costello gigs. I've seen him with the Attractions. accompanied only by keyboard player Steve Nieve – even as part of a John Harle pop/classical tour.

But I've never seen anything like Saturday night's Costello show.

With a gaudy 15ft illuminated spinning wheel festooned with song titles, a glamorous female assistant and an even more glamorous go-go dancer in a "cage", this was a considerably more upbeat, outgoing Elvis than before.

With a huge back catalogue – and a two-hour-and-40-minute running time with no interval – the night's big gimmick was dragging (mainly female) audience members up on stage to spin the wheel and "choose" the next song.

With The Imposters on blazing form (Nieve's keys, Pete Thomas's drums and Costello's own guitar work were especially impressive), highlights included Beyond Belief, Shabby Doll, I Want You, Watching The Detectives, Everyday I Write The Book and, powering towards the end, no-holds-barred, rocket-fuelled takes on (I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea, Pump It Up and (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding.

There was also some sharp wit as Elvis, with top hat and cane, prowled the stage as host Napoleon Dynamite.

Occasionally the mix was foggy but the music's power overcame it. And the true peaks were the quieter, more intense moments, ranging from a delicate Alison to Costello's seething political rage on the oddly-still-topical Shipbuilding and Tramp The Dirt Down.

The wheel was truly on fire. And so was the show.

If the author had included a byline, I could have credited them...
