After a quick double take I had a brief chat with him but didn't wanna bother him for a photo as it was pisshing down! Looking forward to my first songbook show tonight

Twitter's been nearly silent about the show since it started, but there's this...

This is the wackiest Costello concert I've been at in years. He's out here singing among the punters in the stalls... #chemistryclass

"Chemistry Class"? Really?

a lady playing the SAW during gods comic,a hammer the bell bit and his wee brother and HIS band.
Biggest ovation was for Tramo the dirt down.
Sadly the wheel wasnt too great at picking tunes though and his voice sounded a bit tired.
good but not amazing as usual.

ANCT, no chemistry class played, it's Graham Spiers a sports journalist up here, who was tweeting.
Ronald & The Biblecode Sunday's was a nice touch and Brigid and her saw was fantastic entertainment.

other wee snippets:a Chuck Berry song with a BIG guitar, wheels on fire,I want You,the joket was turned into olivers army,American Ransom picked on the wheel.
on the fairground hammer:songs from the future,Womans Excuse me and sneer(?).Mary from Edinburgh couldnt hit the thing hard enough but Katarina sure could.
oh and Katarina knocked over my pint but smelled delightful.

Not1 of my greatest ec shows but still a grand night out.
Tramp The Dirt Down("a song i didnt think i'd play again")preceeded by a heartfelt rant against Murdoch et al was the highlight.

Gig review: Elvis Costello, Glasgow Clyde Auditorium
By David Pollock
Published on Saturday 12 May 2012 02:41

Even to one with a catalogue as extensive as Elvis Costello’s, the routine of heading out on the road yet again and working your way through the staples must seem an onerous task on occasion.

So for his Revolver tour, Costello has spiced things up by jettisoning the setlist and instead deploying what he calls a “showbiz model” – a large fairground-style rotating wheel decorated with the names of about 40 songs, with crowd members invited up to spin it and dance to their own random selections in the “go-go cage”.

It’s a set-up, at the very least, which required fluent versatility from Costello and his three-piece band, both in terms of the volume of his own songs and the number of covers learned. Under this arrangement, for example, a young couple chose Chuck Berry’s No Particilar Place to Go and Bob Dylan and the Band’s This Wheel’s on Fire, and heard them played as a medley featuring extended segments of Costello’s own Payday and The River in Reverse. Also necessary was an easy sense of interaction with his crowd, and Costello played the part of fairground ringmaster well, stepping into the cage to dance along with fans, strolling through the audience to holler the lean funk of Bedlam and introducing his brother Ronan MacManus’ band BibleCode Sundays for the tender folk of American Without Tears and Little Palaces.

The machine fortunately found itself rigged continually towards the end of the show, allowing Watching the Detectives and Oliver’s Army to make a necessary appearance, while the powerful politics of Tramp the Dirt Down and Shipbuilding were removed from the lottery. Their presence was not only necessary, but breathtakingly effective.

Had a great time last night - Tramp the Dirt Down was indeed the highlight and always going to get a great reception in Glasgow.

Looking forward to tomorrow evening and the Liverpool gig which he said will be 'quite different' from Glasgow. Variety is the spice of life!

That's the beauty of seeing Elvis - he and the Imposters can really change their shows.

Great setlist.

*** Strange audio glitch on this track just before EC goes off mike and plays and sings without using the PA.

Recorded from stalls Row D Seat 20.

The guys next to me were brilliant. They knew I was recording so kept noise to a minimum!
Also the crowd in general were very respectful during the quieter songs so this recording does not suffer from any intrusive chatting.

Lineage: Zoom H2-->WAV-->Adobe Audition-->Audacity-->TLH-->FLAC

Once on my PC I put the raw file through Adobe Audition to balance the stereo channels.
I then tracked using Audacity before converting to FLAC using TLH.
I have not faded tracks between CDs so you can listen from PC to the whole show and it will flow seamlessly.
Also include some pics that I took at the gig. I hope somebody can use them to make up a CD cover.
