Elvis Costello & the Imposters Reveal Plans for More Spinning Songbook in 2012

Elvis Costello and the Imposters today announce the first Spectacular Spinning Songbook dates of 2012 with shows in the Southeast US this April. Stay tuned for more Spinning Songbook dates coming soon.

The tour hit more than 30 cities in 2011, garnering acclaim at every turn – from the "fun and irreverence" incited in Indianapolis, to the "hilarity, musicality, and unabated joy" in St. Louis, and on to the "frantic energy" that filled the house in Nashville.

At each performance, select fans are invited onstage to spin the Wheel, helping to create new sets at each performance from a collection of 40 banners including hits, rarities, and a few surprises. This tour marks the Wheel's first appearance in 25 years and includes an on-stage go-go cage and "Society Lounge" in addition to the monumental game-show wheel.

Sweet!

I was wondering if he was gonna reschedule those shows before the European dates. That's so great. Melbourne is a bit closer than Orlando so maybe I can swing three of the Florida shows. This news made my day!

i'm certain i'll enjoy! i don't know about swapping THREE FOR ONE however. of course, i sometimes VERY MUCH ENJOY digital recordings. thanks to the good doc, i listened and was WELL PLEASED with the recording from Berlin a few short nights ago. i just LOVE that IN ANOTHER ROOM song. a throwaway for our boy would be the GREATEST song many a songwriter could wish to compose. and done splendidly out of Alison. how many did you get to sulky? are you done for the solo tour?

Inspired by all of you who've seen the Spinning Songbook Tour multiple times (I'm looking at your Bronxapostle and Doc,) and those in the UK who will do so in May, I've gotten tickets for three of the Florida shows.

I'll be at Clearwater and Hollywood, followed a few days later by Jacksonville, where one of my best friends lives. I actually want to avoid Melbourne, that town just doesn't sound so appealing.

The Jacksonville Theater is amazing so I'll be glad to see him there. Hope all is well then. Can't wait.

You're gonna love it, and keep wanting for more. I'm telling you, this Revolver Tour is addicting. I'm looking forward to his next set of NYC appearances, especially now that I have my new recording gear which totally kicks ass!

Definitely wouldn't mind seeing this tour again. And it's in a time of year where I can afford (at least time-wise) to drive a few hours. Florida's too far, just. Keeping my fingers crossed as more dates trickle in.

Elvis Costello & The Imposters Bring the Spinning Songbook Back to LA

Elvis Costello is proud to announce the return of the “Spectacular Spinning Songbook” to Los Angeles on the heels of 2 triumphant sold out shows at LA's famed Wiltern Theatre last spring. Fans who missed these shows will be able to see it live on April 17th.

The tour also makes its 2012 Canadian debut at The Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, BC on April 10th.

At each performance, select fans are invited onstage to spin the Wheel, helping to create new sets at each performance from a collection of 40 banners including hits, rarities, and a few surprises. This tour has marked the Wheel's first appearance in 25 years and includes an on-stage go-go cage and "Society Lounge" in addition to the monumental game-show wheel.

With set-lists boasting over 200 different songs, the tour hit more than 30 cities in 2011, garnering acclaim at every turn; from the "fun and irreverence" incited in Indianapolis, to the "hilarity, musicality, and unabated joy" in St. Louis, and on to the "frantic energy" that filled the house in Nashville.

These shows precede the Spinning Songbook dates in the Southeast US later on in April, with more to be announced soon.

Spring 2012 North American Tour Dates:

4/10 – Vancouver, BC – Orpheum*

Elvis Costello's Spinning Songbook headed to Coachella?

By BEN WENER / THE ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

If you're contemplating spending some December cash on Elvis Costello, these are the ways he would prefer you do so:

1) Do NOT buy The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook. At least not right now.

2) Do purchase tickets to see the real thing. And soon: Dec. 9.

Costello's Revolver Tour, featuring said Spinning Songbook, has produced some of the most memorable shows he's given in years. At each stop, several fans are brought onstage to chat with their host, give the wheel a twirl, then kick back at a makeshift bar and watch Costello and the Imposters perform whichever song spins into view. The gigs at the Wiltern in May were a blast: the gimmick is cheeky fun, the Spectacle interviewer is as affable as ever, and he and his trusty gang are playing as vigorously as ever.

So a limited-edition set arriving Dec. 6 that includes CD and DVD recordings of those shows, plus four bonus songs on a 10-inch vinyl EP, ought to be a prize worth tracking down -- were it selling for, oh, $29.99. But Hip-O, the catalog arm of Universal Music that's issuing the live memento, has slapped an outrageous sticker price on it: $262.59.

Costello's rather aghast about that, albeit in his usually sardonic way, declaring the price "either a misprint or a satire" in a missive titled "Steal This Record" on his website. He suggests that people in the market for a nifty box set this Christmas instead invest in Ambassador of Jazz, a 10-disc collection of Louis Armstrong.

"If on the other hand you should still want to hear and view the component parts of the above mentioned elaborate hoax," he adds, "then those items will be available separately at a more affordable price in the New Year, assuming that you have not already obtained them by more unconventional means."

However, the Spinning Songbook itself is rolling back to the West Coast, making its Canadian debut for 2012 at the Orpheum in Vancouver on April 10, then heading back to the Wiltern on April 17. Check back for prices and exact on-sale time (likely 10 a.m. Friday).

Might there be yet another night at the Wiltern? It isn't unthinkable, but I suspect something bigger might be afoot: the Spinning Songbook at Coachella.

Costello's spring itinerary conveniently leaves both weekends (April 13-15 and 20-22) wide open. How fantastic would it be to see that on the Outdoor Theatre stage just after dark? And how gratifying to finally see this particular forebear of the Coachella aesthetic have a time slot at the fest?

As for why Goldenvoice would permit an L.A. play to go on sale ahead of the Coachella lineup announcement, that's easy: different audiences. Costello fans aren't primary Indio-goers, and those who are will gladly pay for a replay anyway.

Don't understand. Two of us are at our computers exactly at 3:00 and never does the opprotunity arise to purchase 2 seats at either $149 or $89 for the Wiltern show. After 5 minutes the systems says "Presale Sold Out". Why these silly games. I have to think only us hardcore fans are trying to get these tickets so why make it difficult?

As for Coachella ... that's and interesting idea.

Now the system tells me the Presale is back on, but the only seats are way up in the Loge section. Why the games? Drives me a little crazy.

Oh well.

Looks like I might be able to hit Durham. There's a good chance I'll be at Merlefest this year, which is only two hours drive away, and if I forgo the last day of the festival, I could probably make it over.

I'm sure I'll be at Tyler's (within walking distance of DPAC) before -- and probably after -- the show.
