We have these but don't mention them much. We run something called Webalizer (http://www.webalizer.org/) on the server. It runs automatically a few times a day and includes The Fan Forum and The Wiki.

http://www.elviscostellofans.com/stats/

The short version is that for Oct, almost every day had a 1 GB or more of transmitted content and we averaged about 13000 unique visits. Each unique visitor could have multiple page loads and those are "hits". There were about 130,000 hits per day on average. [Disclaimer: This web stats terminology is confusing. I hope I got it right.]

FWIW thanks to the community for contributing last year, the new beefy server is lightly loaded from a CPU and disk space perspective. BUT the internet connection is fairly modest. It is 1 Mbps up. With approximately a GB per day transmitted, that means we at ~15% of capacity when viewed on a 24 hour basis. But in reality, I expect that there are periods where the response time could be slow. The traffic is not likely to be evenly distributed.

Thanks a lot. Don't ask me why I find stuff like this interesting. But more than 2 mio. pageviews pr. month is even more than i thought. Impressive for a fan forum :)

I am impressed also. When the Wiki was moved to this server, it took a while to get the performance tuned out. At that point, we were around 60-70000 hits a day. The Wiki had one image (Simpsons rock camp) that was being pulled about 4000 times a day because it was linked from other sites. :)

For those who don't know, the server running all this magic is in Spooky and I's basement. Other than the tornado which left Huntsville without power for almost a week, we have had remarkably high uptime.

Some random statistics:
  • Fan Forum has had almost 150,000 posts since starting in June 2003 (8 1/2 years ago).
  • Fan Forum has nearly 1500 registered users
  • John Foyle has the most posts with 9190. :)
  • There are over 30 users with more than 1000 posts.
  • Wiki has over 27,000 pages.
  • Wiki has more than 10,000 uploaded files associated with it.
  • Wiki says it is approaching almost 10,000,000 page views!!

Thanks for the prod. :)

OK. Looks like it has been a busy year. :)

Some random statistics as of today (13 August 2016):

Fan Forum has about 172,500 posts since starting in June 2003.
Fan Forum has 1987 registered users
John Foyle STILL has the most posts with 12,076 with Otis Westinghouse trailing behind with 8810.
There are over 35 users with more than 1000 posts and 74 with over 500.
Wiki has over 50,000 pages.
Wiki has over 22,000 uploaded files associated with it.
Over 5000 files added since last time!!!
Wiki says it is over 34,000,000 page views!!
That's 10,000,000 more than last time!!

A little harder to understand is how many times a "semantic tag" is used. This is when a song is marked as played in a recording, concert, etc.
Almost 50,000 entries have been marked as being a song played.

I tried to find out how many concerts were listed in the gigography but don't see how to do that.

It has been a busy year. Lots of post and a serious improvement in bandwidth to host the site happened so it should be more responsive. Please keep posting!

  • John Foyle STILL has the most posts with 14,588 with verbal gymnastics at 11,861. Otis Westinghouse trailing behind with 8,856.
Some tidbits from the Wiki:
  • The Wiki started 19 March 2006.
  • Wiki has over 78,000 pages with 24,000 being considered real content pages.
