Pophead,
I don't know where you are right now, but this doesn't look good for your fair city. I know that not only myself and Doc, but everyone here wishes you the best during this storm. We hope to hear something from you soon.

I'm sure everyone's thoughts here are with Pophead, and the amazing city where he lives.
In an odd way, the rep[ressed old U.S. has never needed New Orleans more than now.

I know the lovely LapinsJolie lost power for a time; I hope Pophead doesn't fare any worse than that... thinking of y'all...
Okay, I've been watching the Weather Channel, cause I hadn't heard much about the specifics of the storm, and now I'm seriously worried about all my friends down south, esp in N.O. I can't imagine there won't be, at the least, horrific property damage. My thoughts are with you all.

I'll be thinking of you guys in all of the states affected!
Good luck to all, and take care! Man, Elvis took me to a few of the states affected, I hope they all weather it out and stay safe.

Well, if you believe NPR, it appears that N.O. dodged the bullet this time for the most part. Yay.
Now, here's hoping that all the rest of our Southern/gulf coasty friends stay safe through the storm.

Glad to see the site back up! Anyhow, it appears I may have written too soon. N.O. is largely underwater, though I'm not sure at all whether that would include Pophead's neighborhood. I assume he's safely evacuated, but still, that's worrisome.
It does make you wonder, if 80% of the city is now underwater, what things would have been like if the (not so unlikely) worst case scenario storm had happened.

N.O. appears to have taken a very heavy blow even it it did fall short of the worst case predictions. The problem now is going to be illness from standing water, high heat, and loss of shelters.
And that applies all along the coast. Parts of Mississippi were hit worse than N.O.. I recall that Gulfport is largely gone.
I haven't seen much of Mobile today but it sounded rough as well.

Yes, I am also eager to hear from our friend pophead2k.bobster wrote:Glad to see the site back up! Anyhow, it appears I may have written too soon. This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

Its a very weird thing... And it's incredible how nature can strike so unexpetedly, rapidly and ferociously. Even the most advanced nation in the world can't prepare itself for the horrors of nature. Good luck to all in N.O and other cities 'round there...Oh, and also smile for the camera, I'll be watching all of you on TV (CNN Live Coverage Rocks!). Seriously though, I wish of all of you luck (AND DON'T LOOT! LOL )!

The damage caused by Katrina on the English news was estimated as £16billion. That is astounding. The picture they showed really brought things home. Roads ripped up, hotels destroyed, the endless flooding and, looting
Mrs VG and I had the Spookys and everybody else we know about in our thoughts last night.

That's sweet . Thankfully I don't know anybody from New Orleans (because I would be in a very hard position). So 16 billion pounds eh?? Holy crap! What a mess...verbal gymnastics wrote: Mrs VG and I had the Spookys and everybody else we know about in our thoughts last night.

Very tragic. What can you say at times like these? I'm sure that some third world countries can relate. On a brighter note, ABC has just renewed Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for ten more seasons!
It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think that you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt
